Hip Fat!

I am a normal sized woman and the only place with fat on my body that I would be happier without is my hips and stomach... where it tends to hang over your jeans! I need to get rid of this by the summer. I am in college right now and I do a lot of sitting around, but I do burn at least 200 calories per day and eating fruit, veggies, nuts, and drinking lots of water! Any other tips!? THANKS

Squats, squats & more squats! And also watch for carbs, as they are culprits for tummy fat. Good luck0

You want to do some different excercises. I found that cycling, even an indoor bike while reading homework, works really well on the hips. Situps help with tummy fat, or skin looseness.0

There is no proven way to 'spot train'. Your best option is to do cardio and stick to a nutritious diet! :flowerforyou:0

DITTO!
The only way to get rid of belly fat is by diet and exercise. You can do all the crunches in the world but if you don't do the diet first nothing is gonna happen.
Squats are more for your butt and legs. Not necessarily your hips or love handles.0 -

Um. why do you say carbs are the culprit? I'm curious. Overeating is usually the culprit, BAD carbs might help some (by BAD I mean simple, processed carbohydrates, like bleached white flour, and twinkies, and takeout chinese food...etc), but there's nothing inherently evil about carbohydrates. Carrots aren't bad, and they have plenty of carbs. Steel Cut Oats have 26 grams per serving, but they are anything but bad for you. Just wanted to make sure everyone is aware, carbs aren't bad, how we prepare and eat them can be, but not carbs on their own.0 -

Oatmeal and brown rice are carbs and neither are culprits for tummy fat. Eating excess calories of any kind will keep fat on us.0 -
When I was running before, I noticed my hips really slimmed down. I know the whole deal on not being able to spot reduce, but the running was cardio to burn the fat...
All I know is my hips got leaner....0 -
Yep, cardio cardio cardio.
I've made it in to the gym every day for the past week and a half and my hips and back have already slimmed quite a bit.
I average about 20 mins cardio a day, 25-30 on a good day. Trying to work my way up.
If you have time to sit around, take a walk and take your reading homework with you. Just find ways that you can incorporate your studies into your workouts. I find that it even helps me concentrate better! (Totally aced a test I thought I would bomb. )
Oh, if your professors give you permission, sometimes it helps to record sessions. You could listen to the recordings while you walk/run/etc.0 -

I will say that running helped me lose in my stomach and toned my legs. The stomach does seem to be the last to go. I still have some and genetically always will but it's much better than it use to be.
And thanks Banks for pointing out that carbs aren't the enemy. There are some that are good for us, just like fats. We need some of those to but the healthy ones. Olive oil, nuts, nut oil, avocado.0 -
Cardio, walking lunges, and squats firm up the hips.
Yoga also stretches and firms your hip muscles
Ohhhh and belly dancing. If you haven't tried it yet, it is so much fun!0 -

I've always heard that breads and stuff like that do pack on belly weight. I don't remember where I heard it, but I've heard it more than once. And yes I meant BAD carbs, not things like grapes & carrots!
I didn't mean it to sound bad. But I've seen incomplete thoughts snowball fast on here before. I just wanted to make sure people knew that it's not carbs in general, it's how the carbs are presented that can be bad for you. Wouldn't want any newbies thinking that they can't eat whole wheat bread or anything like that.0 -
For me what helped was diet on track - watching overall calories, plus cardio, cardio and a little bit more cardio thrown in for good measure. 6 1/2" off the hips in a bit over 3 months, but I have been doing a solid 45 min cardio average 7 days a week. Still working on the tummy:grumble:0

Tae Bo/ kickboxing really helped me get rid of that hip pudge!
Unfortunately I have re-found the lost weight from several years ago so I'm battling it again!0 -
