Runners: How to train for 10K by 12/18/11?

I just ran 6K today, just to see how I'd do. I stopped running there because my knees told me to. I figure I can work my way up to 10K if I got this far.

My questions are:

1. Should I run again tomorrow? How far and at what intensity? (I did a 9.4 min/mile pace today, which was good enough for me to be relaxed and not too out of breath.)

2. What sort of training intervals should I do? Run every other day? Or every day, but with varying intensity & speed?

I've used Hal Higdon's training for my runs and have had good outcomes!

Really, it's just about increasing your distance if you can already do 6k. Just add 5-10 min a week to your long runs and you'll be able to complete the 10K by your desired timeframe. 10K is only 6.2 miles and 6k is 3.7 miles. But if it's your first 10K, I wouldn't focus on speed. Just finishing. You can ramp up your speed over the winter and kick some *kitten* in a spring 10K. Good luck!!
