100lbs and over losers...???????

I have lost 104lbs so far and lately no matter how well i do with food and exercise, it seems as though the pounds aren't budging! Whats up with this? Is anyone else experiencing a slower loss after losing 100lbs? I still have 56lbs to go and i hate just being at a stand still no matter what i do. Although, even though the pounds aren't budging, it does feel as though once again my body is changing or changing shape, does that seem weird? This last week since Monday i thought that i might kick itnto high gear and go low-carb but still no change. Help please???????? Thanks my MFP buddies...HUGS!

Yes, i thought that maybe changing up my exercise might be the wy to go. I usually just walk 45-60 minutes a day but i think it's time for some harder sweat sessions. Thank you, i will start changing it up.0 -
your body either looses weight or looses inches usually not both at the same time...so maybe you are shifting in size. Just not weight.0

One of my MFP friends does a thing called calorie zig zagging and calorie loading. (DieselJay). Perhaps you can Google that and see if it will shake up your metabolism a bit :-) And congrats on such a long journey and terrific results!

I'm struggling too. 116 pounds gone and it isn't coming off. I really want to lose it! i am so close to my goal yet so far

I'm on my wall to about a 90 pound loss goal. I've been plateau'd at around 170 (60ish pounds lost) since July. I went through a slow drop, super quick drop, standstill, and then i noticed I could start eating more and more without gaining. So i'm working my way up to eating around 1800 calories without gaining (whereas i ate around 1200 to lose) and then i'm going to go back to full speed dieting after the holiday season.
my point is that if your body is plateauing you have two choices; push way harder, or give in and just work to maintain your weight.
My plan is to follow a relaxed but balanced and nutritious diet then kick it back into gear.
Shocking your body is what burns through the weight but you also have to listen to your body.
This is just my opinion but its what i'm doing for myself and i've been successful doing it my way so far!

I have experienced this as well!! I had to step up the exercise and watch what I was eating very carefully. It will come off just be patient!! Congratulations on your weightloss!!!0

Great job so far! I hit a few plateau's and I would add calories for a few days and actually do less exercise and it seemed to help break the plateua. I only added a few hundred more calories and nothing extreme, play around with your calories a bit and see how that works0

Thanks everyone for the great advice. Your all most likey correct in what you say. our bodies are pretty high tech and complicated at times. I will just continue to do what i am doing with some tweaking and hopefully push through this plateau. Thanks so much for all your help and great job on all your weight losses as well!0

If you aren't losing anymore weight, don't continue what you are doing, you definitely need to change something. As your body changes, your needs change as well. Maybe you are setting your goals too high? (are you aiming for 2lbs a week? at this point it should be around 1lb per week), which means your caloric needs may have increased, because it seems like maybe your metabolism has slowed. This means your body won't burn as much calories throughout the day because its not expecting as much fuel. There's quite a few blogs and forum posts about how to jump start your metabolism again, that seems to be the way to get past this kind of plateau. Good luck!0

I'm in a 6 month long plateau, I have tried so many different things to lose the last 15 lbs it isn't even funny anymore. I am exhausted with trying to get to goal already, but as long as I'm maintaining and not gaining I try not to complain and I just keep hoping and praying some day the scale will be nice to me again and show me lower numbers!!0

Your probably right! I have noticed that I'm not burning as many calories as I used to via my Body Media Fit armband. I was burning like 3300 calories a day and I still do if I'm very very active, like grocery shopping, cleaning AND getting in my 45min. walk. Lately it's been more so around 2600-2700 and that is with sleeping in as i don't work and doing a few things throughout the day along with including my 45min. walk. I also haven't been eating as many calories as i was before especially this last week as I have been doing more of the low-carb thing hoping to jump start my metabolism. I end up not eating as much since eating low-carb is usually a natural appetite suppressant anyway. Maybe I need to go back to the regular diet I was doing and add more calories again. One thing about doing low-carb is that I feel more energetic and my head is much clearer. I am one of those people who are carb sensitive and I don't do well with them as I sometimes lose control eating too many carbs! This is not something I plan to do OR want to do long term, only a temporary solution for jump starting my metabolism or at least trying to! I will check out the blogs on plateaus once again and hopefully find something to help me. Thanks so much for everyones feedback! You guys are always great with helping and keeping me motivated!0 -

Yeah, I had this as well, I actually took a wee holiday from being so strict and just enjoyed a holiday drinking what I liked (within reason) for a few weeks.
Then i got back and upped the calories I was eating (1lb a week loss rather than 2) and increased my exercise - I'm learning to swim so that's something that my body has just started to deal with now.
It will take time, it seems to be a trend that once you get to that magic 100 number you just have to step back from it and treat it differently.
You'll get there no rush now, you're already brilliant!0 -

this is not always true. Your body changes. 100lbs is a drastic change, and what worked when you are 100lbs heavier may not work when you've lost that weight. The heavier you are, the easier your body burns off that fat. But the less fat you have, the more you have to kind of strategize things differently. As you get closer to your goal you also need to make sure you aren't losing muscle mass for instance. If you have less fat to lose, your body may start looking for muscle to burn, even if you still have body fat to lose. Point is your body changes, your needs change, and if you find yourself at a plateau like this, honestly that's a sign that something needs to change.0 -

CONGRATS to everyone in here who has made it to the 3-digit club! That's amazing!
I can say that because I just joined that hard-to-reach accomplishment!
Now - of course it's gonna change and be a bit more difficult. Burning calories is slower, the pounds release less quickly... but think about how many changes your body has gone through! I also have had to do some difficult adjustments just to get here -- being told to eat MORE calories? But, it worked. Also - upping my protein and water ALWAYS works for me!

I've had good results with taking a week off from workouts & just kept my diet completely clean.
