Pizza is a vegetable

Congress officially ruled that pizza counts as a vegetable. Things like this make me so mad! No wonder so many Americans have such a distorted view of food!

I read this the other day..and about died. It's so gross. ugh0

Technically, it's just the pizza sauce. So, if you take away the sauce it's not a veggie anymore. Either way- it's still a bonehead move.0

I read about this too, it's because of the tomato on the base (when tomato is really a fruit)
It makes me really sad for the kids growing up thinking that they're eating healthily when they really aren't
If I can't go and buy it from my local greengrocers, or grow it myself in the garden it's not really a vegetable is it? Even if it had loads of vege's on top of the pizza, it's still just a pizza but with vege's on top.0 -

I have nothing against pizza, and we eat it in moderation. My problem is all this time were teaching our kids to load up on fruits and veggies, and now the school is going to tell them that pizza is a vegetable. Meaning that they will want to start loading up on that instead of good foods. This will be a problem for sure.0

Once I was at a friends house who bragged all the time that she gave her kids vegetables at every meal. On this day, she only gave the kids sandwhichs and i didn't see any vegetables so i told her i didn't see any vegetables on the plate and she told me there is ketchup on the sandwhich.0

If you can get the lobbyists for ConAgra and their cohorts out of the way, things would be very different. Remember when they decided that ketchup was counted as a vegetable? That's when I was still in school, so this has been a problem for a long time.
The other side of the coin is that school corporations do not want to have to pay the money it will cost for the labor it would take to make more nutritious lunches. They only want to pay people to open boxes and reheat.0 -
This all boils down to budgets and laziness. The government doesn't care much about what goes into our kids as long as it fills them up.
Oh, did you see french fries are also a veggie? *groan*0 -
I love it! I eat pizza without cheese and meat, only the bread, easy sauce and veggies. It, (the bread) is still bad and I would never classify what I eat as a veggie, and I guess no one but me eats pizza without cheese (and still calls it pizza).
I still agree, pizza is not a veggie.
French fries is not a veggie.
baby formula is not real food.
vitamins is not real food.
eat real food, not food like products!0 -

Yes, exactly! I don't know how they can really consider pizza sauce to be a veggie after all the processing it goes through. How much veggie is really left? It really bothers me that the schools are giving such inaccurate information to kids about nutrition! Isn't a school supposed to be all about educating kids about the facts?0 -
and my mcbeef flavoured burger is also a vegetable as the cow was eating grass...
Seriously, what tenuous link makes a greasy pizza as good as a vitamin and fibre packed tasty part of the diet0 -
although i agree that this was not a bright move, technically pizza is not a vegetable but now the sauce counts as a serving of veggies for the day. this was only done so that schools can feed their students pizza (cheap) and still fit under the veggie requirements while not having to buy as many fresh vegetables (expensive)0
