The topics are listed with the most recently posted in at the top. If someone just wants to move something to the top, but doesn't have anything to add, they'll post "bump" in a message. That's all it means, they're just trying to keep a thread up toward the top of the list so others will see & respond to it.

if you see a post you like or want to go back to you write in bump so it shows up on your messages and it's easily traceable :)

You use a "bump" as a bookmark to go back and read or re-read a post later. It then shows up on your profile page at the lower left under "recent forum posts" so you can find it easily.

Other forums have a button to "subscribe" to a thread or forum, but this one doesn't, so people use "bump." Usually it's just to keep a thread from sinking into obscurity if the OP ("original poster") still needs an answer, or if someone has edited an older post and wants people to see there is more recent content.

It means that your replying to you own topic in order to cause it to move back to the top recent posts.

Lets say that you asked a question a few days ago and you never got a reply but you felt it was important enough to recieve one, you may type 'Bump' in a reply to your old post to move it up making it noticed again.

The word 'Bump' in itself just indicates your intention for a second look. Replying with any other text does the same thing.

The practice of Bumping is usually frowned upon in forum based communities unless its really important.
