Hi everybody :) my name is Rikke, I'm 19 and I'm from Denmark.
I'm currently finishing our version of sixthform, on my third and last year, and I want to lose some weight before our galla in january. I thought I needed some encouraging so I decided to not only keep my some food-journal, but also check out some different sites like these and find some forums to join.
This is my first forum so far :)

  • Welcome! The food and exercise diaries are really addictive and equally helpful. I think you'll really like this site. Everyone is super supportive and understanding, too. Good luck!
  • hey i'm a 17 year old student also in a type of sixth form from the UK :) but i'd really like to study/spend time in Denmark when i start university

feel free to add me if you like - i'm always looking for similar people at these places :)

    good luck in losing!
  • Nice to meet you :) I took my year 12 in the UK, but our sixth form is so different from yours that it didn't count :( You guys only have (up to) 4 subjects, where we have no choice but having at least 21 subjects :/
  • ahh i see :) i'm studying 5 AS Levels at the moment.

    21? that's a lot of choice!
  • oh it's not a choice :) they pick them for us. Then we have to pick how many years we'll study them for, 1 to 3 (we have to stay in sixth form for 3 years) in the first year we have 21, and second only 11 and then in the last we have to have at least 11 as well :)

Which subjects do you study then?
  • wow that's very different - how do you manage 21 subjects? although you do less now as you're in your third year?

i'm doing English Lit, History, Politics, Ancient History and Photography. ultimately i want to pursue music or writing though.

i'm just not good enough at music theory to study music! ;p

    what about you?
  • It's not a difficult really, most subjects we have maybe twice a week, depending on which level their on. Each lesson is 50 minutes, and our school days is from 8 to 15, so we actually end up having to many hours often so they cancel them. (There's a limit about how many times you can have one subject in a term) Tomorrow I only have to lessons, so I'm meeting at 10 and off at 11:45 :) (we have a five minute break between each subject)

I would love to become a writer as well. I'm currently in the process of writing my second book, the first one is being reviewed by a label as we speak :)

I'm studying (at the moment) 12 subjects (I chose one extra because I enjoyed it and felt I had the time):

    English (language)

    Danish (kinda like your English)

    German

History (I want to study History and university later on)

Roman/Greek culture and mythology (Which I also want to study at Uni)

AT (Almen studieforståelse. Basically the understanding of subjects and how you can relate them to each other)

AP (Almen Sprogforståelse. The understanding of languages, a study of languages and their progression through time)

    Psychology

    Biology

    P.E

    Religion

    And socialstudies :)
  • this is so strange! i've also written 3 novels - the first of which is being considered by an agent! good luck to you!

they sound like good subjects - i'd like to take up Danish, Finnish or a Scandinavian language when I start Uni - i would also like to study history or english at uni

are you planning to study in Denmark?

we can also drop into college when we have lectures and leave/do work if we don't have any

my photography means i have a lot of coursework though so i'm usually there from 8-16
  • Cool, if you wanna study in Denmark, I'd suggest you study Danish of course, although every Dane under 80 speaks more or less fluent English, and the university's offer classes in English. If you don't plan on studying in Denmark, I'd suggest you learn Swedish or Norwegian instead, as Danish is a much more difficult language to learn than those.

Yes, I'm planning on studying in Denmark. Once I finish college I'll have a, what we call, Sabbat-year, which is basically a leap year were you either work or travel, I'll be doing both. Most Danes do this :)
After that I'm applying to Aalborg University (or maybe Aarhus, but I'd prefer Aalborg as it's know for being more social :D)

Yeah, as mentioned I used to study in Wales, so I've tried going to a UK College taking year 12 :) it was at an comprehensive school, and because I was an exchange, I had to be in everyday from 9 to 15. So most of my time was spend in the commonroom :)

I took media, law, history and art, so I had a lot of coursework as well :)
