Sudden salt intake -- gain?

I feel really silly asking this, but have to... I splurged on a lot (a LOT) of chips and salsa last night. I counted how many and tracked. Came in under my calorie goal for the day thanks to exercise, but when I stepped on the scale this morning, I'd gained about 1.5 lb since yesterday morning.
I certainly didn't eat over 3500 calories in chips, haha, so I'm just curious: can a sudden, drastic increase in salt intake cause water weight gain? I checked my sodium levels and they were significantly higher than most days, hence the question.
Thanks! xo

Retaining water. Drink lots of water and it will be gone soon enough0

I think it can. Try to drink extra water today to flush some of it out. I try to keep track of salt along with fat & calories because of this issue, I know I always have a gain on the scale after eating chips or popcorn0

yes if you didn't drink enough water to even out the salt intake then yes your body will retain water from other foods that you eat and it will seem as if you've gained weight when you step on the scale.0

I think it depends ...b.c when I go over my salt limit I never gain.0
