Day 1 of C2K5 Program: Completed (with utter surprise!!)

I always thought it was silly to be so excited about such little feats, because I feel that other people don't *really* care, but now I understand the excitement, pride and accomplishment that comes with it, which is why I felt compelled to share it with all of you!
My mom and I have decided to start the C25K program to lose weight, fit and healthy TOGETHER (it's always easier with a support system, even if that only consists of one other person!), and our goal was to start tomorrow, Monday 11/21/11. BUT the first feat is that we did it tonight, and we did it well!!! No more procrastinating! I'm so proud of her, and myself, because we are both incredibly out of shape and didn't AT ALL think that we'd be able to do the 60 minute jogging intervals, but we managed it awesomely! Granted, we extended the walking periods by about another 30 seconds, but I think that's what kept us going; it gave us the break we needed, gave our calves and ankles the time to relax before starting to jog again, and helped us in finishing the first day!! YAY!
Our goal is to keep up with the program 3 or 4 times per week, repeating weeks as necessary, and eventually work up our strength, speed and stamina enough to run our first 5k together within a year, maybe a year and a half at most. I'm so excited.
Thank you all for taking the time to read this silly post, but I appreciate all of you! Everybody so far has been so encouraging AND inspiring, MFP is the first place I wanted to go to say "I DID IT!!!!"
Thank you all, and love you all!!

That's so wonderful, congratulations! That's so great that you both started tonight, instead of later. That's a big mental step that a lot of people take for granted. I really want to try and get back into the C25K program - so many people love it. I'm sure you and your mother will rock it, and I think it's a great goal to do it together0

that's great!! Keep at it! Those little things are SO exciting. I just finished my third week of C25K - I was honestly surprised I ran the 3 minutes, I haven't run since middle school. You'll get to 5K in no time0

That's great, I've completed that same program a few months back and I'm now training for a half marathon. Today's run on my training plan is 19Km, that's where the c25K program has taken me.
The beauty of the program is that you can tailor it to your needs, you can add a extra week at a level if you feel you're not ready to jump to the next week or you can jump weeks if you feel you can do more. I always tried to do a little extra then what the program asked for on each day.
Good luck to you and your mum and I don't care what people say about little feats but the fact that you get out there and are both working together in your fitness and health is a huge feat, so stick to it and you'll see amazing results in no time.0 -
I can appreciate the pleasure out of each achievement. Well done to you both. I was thinking of trying the C25K once again next year. I keep repeating week 1 then I seem to have long extended breaks. I am currently doing the Jillian Michaels 30 DS. But now I'm thinking why wait till next year to start C25K. Whats wrong with tomorrow.0
