Dance vs Kick Boxing

Seems like I"m working (and sweating, and gasping for breath) just as hard doing Latin Dance and similar as when I do a kick boxing workout, but this site says I'm burning more calories doing kick boxing. So am I doing the kick boxing wrong, or the dance?

I would eliminate the guesswork and buy a HRM, you can buy a decent one for about $50. I don't really have too much faith in what MFP tells me.0

I'm going to pick one up as soon as I can. I didn't want to go with the cheapest one I found, it isn't supposed to be as accurate as the ones in the range you mentioned. Oh well, I might not know at the moment exactly how many calories I'm burning, but at least I'm off the couch. Makes it hard to plan meals around eating back my workout calories, though!0

Yes - I have found the calorie burn to be way off on MFP for everything I was doing. When I got my HRT I found it surprising I was burning way more calories doing step classes vs high intensity cardio/strength circuits which i found physically way more difficult.0

It depends a lot on how tough your instructor is. My kickboxing class is much more work than dance, but I am sure it can vary. I usually just add the basics (why MFP says) and then adjust the calories from there based on whether I think I had a harder or less hard workout. I usually don't add more than 600 calories for a 60 minute class.0

Event tho my heart rate is higher when I do hip hop then when I do kick boxing.
Kick boxing use more big muscle so I know I will burn more calorie after the work out.0
