Strength training question?

So, after reading a thread on here last night I realised that in order to get the body I wanted strength training would have to be the way forward.
However, I'm still not at my goal weight and would ideally like to lose anywhere between 10 - 14/15ishlbs, which isn't actually a lot left too lose.
Would I be better to lose the weight first of all, and then start incorporating strength training in order to tone my body? Or would I still be able to lose the weight and tone my body doing a mixture of strength training and cardio?

For the last ten pounds, I would say quality of exercise is EXTREMELY important. Its at this stage that you can focus on toning your body, and possibly building up some good healthy muscle With that being your focus, you might be surprised at how much better your body will look, and how quickly the fat will seem to "burn off"!

you should start your strength training now! building muscle mass will help you start to burn more fat. good luck!0

You should definitely incorporate both. Strength training keeps your metabolism burning higher all day. You may not burn the calories just doing the exercise like you do with cardio, but as you build your muscle, you will use more calories just resting. So, in the long run it really helps you to lose weight and/or maintain your weight.0

Strength training will hell you retain more muscle, so that more of what you lose will be fat.0

Thanks everyone, definitely going to look at incorporating strength training then.
Would anyone recommend body pump?0 -
I have ONLY done strength training, no cardio at all, and have lost almost 40lbs.0

Now is a great time, because those last 10 lbs are going to be really hard to lose after you've done so well. I would also suggest getting a partner that is really knowledgeable about lifting; which muscles to work and proper technique. If you don't know anyone, invest in a physical trainer for 2-3 or sessions to get you started. You really want to make sure you are doing it right and you don't get hurt, it will set you back.0

Keep the focus on cutting down to the wieght/body fat % you are targeting. ABSOLUTELY begin a strength and sculpting routine now, but keeping your calorie goal at losing .5 to 1 pound per week until you hit the mark you are happy with. This approach will help you keep a clear perspective on how your body's true frame looks. After reaching that target you can switch over fully to the sculpting aspect of your training. Sounds like you are doing great...good luck!0

Yes! Actually that's a great way to get started learning proper technique.0

This is exactly what I was going to say. Start strength training now 2-3 times a week and focus on the areas of your body that are most important to you.0 -
Thanks everyone
I'm going to go down to my first body pump class tomorrow at 10
I've got 10 days left of my shred so until that's done I'll bodypump 2-3 times a week and do the shred, then once the shred is over I'll bodypump 2-3 times a week and either run/swim afterwards depending on the gym I use.
Does that sound okay?0 -
it sounds liek exactly the right course! have fun.0
