Falling asleep during workouts?

So I've noticed that every time I do an exercise where I am working 2 muscle groups that involve me doing squats or lunges or when I am during something like a single leg squat, that my foot that I am putting most of my weight on has that "falling asleep" tingle to it. Is that normal? Why? Anyone else experience this? I have about 35 pds. left to go to hit my goal weight so I'm not putting an over the top amount of weight on it? Am I making sense? lol.

I'm having that in my right leg, from hip to thigh. I have nerve damage from a bad back, so you might want to get that checked out if others don't think that's normal.
  • mine do that too

I haven't experienced that during workouts, but, I wonder if maybe you have a pinched nerve. If I have a pinched nerve certain movements will cause it to feel that way until I get an adjustment and get it loose.

I had to read the post just to find out how you were falling asleep during workouts. I had this picture in my head of someone dropping in the middle of Zumba or falling of a bike in a spin class.

This happens to me on the elliptical. It could be that your shoes are too tight and cutting off circulation to your feet, or it could be the fact that your feet are at unnatural angles and aren't used to having to pump blood at that position.

Poor circulation...Happens in my feet constantly and my physician said not to stress about it if my limbs aren't sleeping as well..
  • that happens to me if i'm leaning forward on my toes too much, especially on the elliptical. try keeping most of your weight on your heels.

Mine do it too, I think it's just pinching of the nerves and poor circulation of blood. If I stretch a little in between it goes away to some extent.

I'm so glad you're talking about limbs falling asleep......I thought you meant PEOPLE actually falling asleep during workouts....I was going to say you're doing something wrong.

Actually I have had my last two toes go numb when running. I think my shoes were tied too tight because it didn't happen again.
  • Happens to me every time I spend more than 30 minutes on the Tony Little Gazelle. I try, when I remember, to message my feet before bed to increase a little circulation, and that helps through-out the day. but I don't remember too well until I ride that Gazelle.

Are you wearing running shoes? These are designed with a very flexible sole (which is perfect for running but doesn't translate well to other activities). Maybe cross trainers would help?

I'm glad you posted this. I was wondering about my shoes today. We'll see!

I'm sorry you're having that problem, but I had to read the post! I was wondering how you were falling asleep while exercising! Get the problem checked out by a doctor

Haha, yeah that is a funny image if someone's actually able to fall asleep during a workout. :)
Thank you all for your input!! I workout barefoot, (unless I'm walking/running). I'm thinking maybe it is poor circulation but I don't know. I'm glad to know I'm not the only one.
