I feel like I'm not doing enough in order to lose weight.

I have VERY recently started on MyFitnessPal, but I feel like I'm not putting in enough time to lose weight. My friend's are burning calories right and left...which is great, I might add. I have the time to walk, but I still need some more motivation so that I will DO the walking. Right now, I am walking one half of an hour every other day when I could easily get out there and walk every day. I find the walking extremely boring; even though, I take my iPod with me. That does help some. Right now, when I have finished walking, my shins, calves, and thighs hurt a bit. That is one reason that I have only walked every other day. I'm not walking the next day, because I'm CHOOSING not to. My legs don't hurt the next day. I need to just get up and go, but I need some kicking on by behind to do it.

Make sure you stretch hamstrings, quadriceps, calves and hips/buttocks after each walk. You may also find it helpful to do a couple of stretches after a few minutes of walking if there's somewhere you can pause briefly.

Thanks RoanneRed. I had never given that a thought before. Thank you so much. That will help a lot with my being able to walk farther.
  • Something I have found that helps me when I walk is taking different routes. This can provide a nice change of scenery sometimes. I know that it is the monotony of the same route that gets me demotivated. The trick is to not do something too much, because you could get burned out on it and never return to doing it.

my motivation is my health. Sure I could sit around and watch tv but I am choosing to get up and work out. Until you decide how important it is for you to get healthy all the motivation and pretty cliche sayings people tell you here aren't going to get you up off the couch.

Thanks joshuamhort and raiderchickette. Taking different routes has dawned on me, but I haven't changed the scenery that much. I will do so starting today. I really want to get back to the way I look on my profile picture. You are right raiderchickette, I have to do this myself and for myself.
  • Hi, have you thought about mini challenges whilst walking, for instance, when you reach a signpost or lampost etc, you speed up the pace until you reach the next one, and you alternate these as many times as you like. Good luck.

Is there anywhere scenic you can walk at or to? Do you have a friend or neighbour you could pair up with once in a while for walks? Is there something else that gets you moving that you enjoy doing? You will be far more likely to do it if you enjoy it and it makes you feel good.
