I want to walk again and I need support and encouragment

I have done the up and down, yo-yo diet so many times in my life. I have been on every quick loss pill and shake out there. I have done Jenny Craig and WW and all the rest. I've lost over 200 punds in my life and found them all again and then some, yet I am 305 today. What in the world am I doing??? I HAVE TO DO SOMETHING NOW!!!.

I recently had ankle surgery and my doctor told me that I needed another but he will not do that surgery until I lose at least 50 and more like 75. If I don't do this I could lose the ability to walk and end up wheelchair bound for life. I have a 3yr old and that would never be fair to him and well dammit I don't want to be in a wheelchair for the rest of my life.

I NEED ALL THE MOTIVATION AND SUPPORT THAT i CAN GET. Please add me!!!

    You can do this and you will be successful. 18mths a go I was getting out of bed with a walking stick, due not only to weight, but heel spurs as well. 3 weeks ago I walked 27kms. With the support of doctors and friends on MFP, I have come along way, still have a long way to go. I have sent you a friend request and will happily help you along the way. expect tough days we all have them and I still do. But starting with baby steps but big determination you can get there.

    If you cant do this for your kids than there is nobody on here that will get you to do it. Seek motivation from them and ask yourself if they are worth it. Seriously.

    :flowerforyou: Welcome to MFP!! You have done the hardest thing which is to reach out for help.
    I was very nearly in a wheelchair myself, but by making small consistent changes, I am now able to walk 5--8 miles every day WITHOUT PAIN!! And I have kept the weight off for 13 months so far.
    Log your food and do something active every day. You will find all the support and encouragement that you could want on this site.

    You can do it, just take one step at a time and one day at a time. Don't think of it as a life time but think of it one day a time. You can do it !!! You may want to get people around you for support but you can definetly get support from the boards. If you are interested to hear more of what I am doing send me a message and I would be happy to share more with you. But you took the first step by reaching out that is a huge step.     :happy: Girl...YOU CAN DO THIS! Honestly you have started such a good weightloss journey here on MFP (myfitnesspal)... I totally want to help be a cheerleader for you! Dieting isnt goign to work... it is changing what you eat and how you exersise...thats why I love this site!!!

    Have any of the doctors suggested surgery? I know quite a few people who had it and were successful. O course you need to watch what you eat. Try to stay away from fast food, think of all the money you'll save. Buy a George Foreman, I just got the new one, its awesome. You can make burgers and steaks on that.

    Try not to eat fried food, potatoes, rice, ice cream. Make smoothies, they are good. Eat your biggest meal at lunch, this is the advice of most trainers.Watch your sodium.
    I had my hardest time giving up drinking, which I prefer to food. You can do it!

    It really is necessary to get in the habit of logging ALL you eat though. Every snack, every stick of gum, every dollop of whatever. Then when you get into that habit, and discover portion control (which for me was a *very* awesome step) you begin to listen to your body and find those points where you realize you're full and can and should stop eating. Those 'starving kids in Africa' are not going to benefit from you cleaning your plate. LOL Worst thing our parents ever taught us, I swear.

    Also, I was a pretty healthy eater, and not a completely sedentary person, yet steadily packed on pounds, and could not figure out what my problem was. I chalked it up to crossing the mid-thirties barrier and figured I was doomed. NOT SO! I was diagnosed in August with several VERY significant food allergies - Wheat, Soy, all tree nuts, various melons etc. All things I ate every day. Because my body was trying to fight everything I fed it, I was metabolizing nada. So I was eating 3000+ calories a day because I never felt right, full, healthy. It was maddening. Once I got that simple (but expensive! eep!) blood test and cut those things out, within 2 weeks I started shedding pounds like crazy. So, if you feel like that might be an issue, or you have consistent unexplained symptoms, it may be worth looking into. The symptoms can vary greatly so my telling you mine would likely not be helpful.

    I would think that the thought of ending up in a wheelchair would be motivation enough to get started! Actually, it was for me. When my husband revealed to me that that was his greatest fear for me, that I would end up so overweight and disabled that I would end up in a wheelchair, I knew it was time to act.

    Get out there one step at a time. The first step is always the hardest but it gets easier. I am 50kg lighter as proof of that!

    You're not alone, I think most of us here have tried all kinds of things to lose weight.

    I think the power of MFP is that there is no "prescription", no "you must/must not do this".
    You record what you eat, that lets you monitor what you are doing and gives you the opportunity to make healthier choices.

    It really is as simple as that.
    It doesn't mean its always easy to make healthy eating choices but every time you do, it's a victory.
    Every time you make a less-than-healthy choice, well....that's a lesson in not what to do tomorrow.

    Welcome to MFP,

    I have to agree with others, even though we might not be friends you can talk to when your computer is off, I feel supported a lot. I can't call my friends tell them all the time how I am feeling about not losing weight without them being in the same shoe, they just go, hey, work out, eat less.

    I can honestly say, that each of the persons who I have met online on MFP have been very supportive and helped me to stay motivated by encouraging me and telling me I did great.

    You did the first step in the right direction and let nobody talk you down or make you feel bad.

    Take one step at a time, track what you have eaten, try to work out, even if it just a short walk since you have problems with your ankles. If you like swimming, go swimming. I am sure you will find something you like.

  • I can certainly relate! I'm 67 years old and feel more like I'm eighty or ninety! I've become less and less active, and now even walking a short distance is a real challenge for me. I've come back to this site in the hope that I will find friends who will help keep me motivated as I try once again to get in shape!

  • I understand the your issue i lost 100 pound yr due to medication on a side effect because i have seurze. i desied 10 month i was going to do this right buy doing slowly and gaing lean musle and working out. this is the best place to start welcome i will defently add you as a friend just be sure to eat 5 small meals a day and mesure every thing email me and text me if you need me i will be the best support group you will ever find

    Welcome to MFP, you have found a great source for Support, Guidance, and Motivation.. It is endless here.. In the end though it will all come down to you! I have had 2 ankle surgeries myself.. and I don't want a 3rd.. I understand where you are coming from. You can do this, you have to have faith, determination, and the Will!....
