I will be going on a hot holiday at the end of dec, i am working real hard to lose some weight i've gained in the ;ast few months. I want to relax and enjoy this vacation but not gain all of my weight back when i am there with drinks.... so i have to ask, does anyone have good suggestions on drinks that arn't full of calories? I normally and a margarita drinker and not so much a beer drinker ( i know they have some light varieties out but i doubt my resort will carry them anyway), so what is a girl to do on a mexican vacation drink wise? any suggestions?

Rum and diet coke...60 calories.0

cosmos and martinis are somewhat sensible0

Red wine in moderation is pretty fair and has health benefits. However, I understand the moderation part might be tough. Go on some pretty walks, and explore! That will help burn off some of the excess. I'm jealous.0

a good way to cut back on a chunk of your calories is to ask for a margarita made with fruit puree, not the sugar filled juices that you normally see in a fruity margarita.
Personally, if I'm not a fruity mood, I get a bloody mary. It's around 130 cals a glass0 -
*Sobs* my 4 oz raspberry margarita tonight had like 270 calories. Devastating.
5 oz of white wine is like 110 calories, or maybe 90.... I'd have to look it up again. I know Applebee's has some "skinny" mojitos and whatnot, but not entirely sure what is in them - perhaps look into that a bit to get ideas?
Good luck!0 -
Don't forget to have lots of water between your alcohol drinks, and enjoy some exercise.0

definately stick to hard liquor like rums, whiskey, vodka with diet soda. My favorite go to is crown royal diet coke with a lemon twist. You need your fruit, ya know. Crown has 68 calories per oz. If you wanted to reach for a beer. Bud Select 55 is usually my choice. Don't get me wrong, it's no good hearty wheat beer, but it will have to do. Oh, I think you said you're not a beer drinker oh well.0

Enjoy your vacation. I was away last week...and did nothing but eat fried food and drink beer and bourbon (I was in Louisiana). I didn't exercise other than walking around the city. I didn't gain weight, and I had a whole lot more fun enjoying myself than worrying about calories on vacation.
If you're still really concerned, stay away from high-sugar stuff, like fruity drinks that are just made from high fructose corn syrups mixers (like daquiris, etc) or drinks where simple syrup is almost an equal part to the alcohol.
Your vacation is a whole month away. Be careful with your food intake throughout the holidays, and you should be fine to enjoy your vacation. A few drinks for a week won't make you gain any weight that you won't be able to lose right away. And you might even be lucky and be a pound or two lighter when you get back...it worked for me!!0 -

Well I add all the calories of drinks that I will probably have (say a bottle of wine and thats about 550). Then I go to exercise and find out how much dancing I have to do to burn those cals off! Works for me as I love to have a dance when I'm a bit tippsy!!

I always stick to red wines0

Vodka (or gin) Soda Water (sparkling mineral water or whatever it's called over there!) and Lime - Fresh lime, not coridal! Not only is it way low in calories, it also keeps you hydrated at the same time unlike diet soda. Tastes great too!!0

Skinny Girl Margarita's are Deeeeeelish!!!.........and flavored with agave nectar, rather than artificial sweetner!!0
-
Belvedere vodka and tonic.
Cheers!0 -
I'm thinking drinking all that diet soda will make you/me feel bloated after laying off it for a few months - let me know what you do so I can benefit from your experience in March! :drinker:0

Rum and diet coke...60 calories.
Best avoiding artificial sweeteners -- they make you gain weight.0 -
thx everyone, lots of good suggestions. I like the skinny girl margarita but i will be at a resort and i know they won't have that! I also can't drink wine, i should of said that in the beginning i get instant headaches... When it comes to any soda's i will have to say that if i'm going to have one, i want the real thing, i don't like the taste of sweeteners at all, they leave a bad taste in my mouth. I do like the vodka, soda water with lime idea.... i think i can stick to that. I also do hear what others are saying about not worrying about calories, etc while on holidays.. i am not going to focus 100% either but i do tend to ALWAYS gain weight when in mexico.... each year we go and i always gain around 3-7 lbs b/c of all the drinks and food.... i will eat more fried foods, cheese, carbs, etc just b/c that is usually what is very common at the resorts with all inclusive. I will try to make the best choices i can this time around, so if i can cut some calories in the drinking department then i won't feel so bad for having those nachos.... plus i am working so hard to get these pesky 10lbs off which don't know even if i will be able to do by dec 30th, since i have only lost 1 lb according to my scale today ( sigh.... and that took a month... so to go way out of control like i usually do each year on holidays would be so bad for me.....too much hard work is going into this to take it away in a10 day vacation......... I will keep exercising while there, they have a great gym and we do tons of walking and sightseeing so i won't just be a bum on a lawn chair at the pool thanks everyone for the suggestions..... keep them coming if you have more0

No wine? How tragic!
Sometimes I compare in my head. "Do I want to eat _______ (insert fried item here) or have a glass of _______ (insert alcoholic beverage here). Then, depending on my day, I make my choice. Insane day? Alcohol might win. Not so insane? The fried food wins. But I find if I pit them against each other and make a choice (and stick to it!) I seem to feel more in control. Good luck!0 -
Pear Gray Goose with diet Sprite =P
Well any flavored vodka or rum with diet sprite!0 -

that is a good way of thinking of it. I will try that when on holidays...! i know i won't have a s**t day on vacation but i can't have the best of both worlds, right... so if i alternate them then i will be in a better place0 -
