Need motivation!

I started MFP about two years ago. I stopped using it, and then when looking online -at my all time high weight- I realized that the only time I was sucessful in loosing weight was when I tracked what I was eating. In the last three months I was working out for a vaccation I had planned, unfortunatley tropical storms destroyed my plans. Also, I took off a week from working out to nurse an injury, and a week has turned into three weeks. I have absolutley NO MOTIVATION TO WORK OUT! Except perhaps to run, but I'm concerned that when I do run it will become motonous, and I will cause further injry from over pushing myself. I have doing Insanity, and I want to continue, but it seems like such a chore to start up again! And i'm worried I'm going to reverse the progress I have already had. Help, please!

Firstly, take a breath. We've all been there. Too stressed, too busy, unmotivated. So, take a minute to remind yourself that you are human. That was easy right? :)

The next step is to take a step. Not a leap. Not an olympic sized jump, but a step. Don't overwhelm yourself with goals that seem too much, because it will only lead to disappointment. You will get back to doing Insanity again on a regular basis or bigger, harder, workouts if you start out small. Make this week - 30 minutes of SOMETHING 3 or 4 times a week. Maybe something you love (dance, swimming, weights) whatever. And then make the next week a bigger step. You can do this! It will get better, just give yourself some time and a break every once in awhile to be human.

I hope that helped in the motivation department!

Just do it!! The next time will be easier and the next time will be easier.....
I am in the same boat but I refuse to quit. It has only been two days for me and I can blame a small part of it on being busy but mostly it is me being lazy. I don't want to be this way anymore. I have to make the time for ME!!!

YOU can do this!! WE can do this!!

Make a deal with yourself, after 10 minutes of working out if you still want to quit, quit. That's the deal I make with myself when I'm dreading working out. Most of the time I finish the workout, and feel better for it.

I totally agree with Howbouto! I have never tried that but it's a good idea. I often ask myself if I were ever sorry I worked out- the answer to which is a resounding NO.

And if you miss a day of logging meals or working out- get up and start over! No big deal!!

Thanks guys. I'm def going to try to start small, even though I feel that if I restart I should start full speed. I will try the 10 minute trick. Good luck on all of your goals too!

It is tough to motivate when you've been on hiatus for a while. I had a tough time motivating when I started MFP a few months ago, but as I started logging an interacting with others, the motivation just came. I, too, often tell myself just 10 or 15 minutes if I really don't want to work out; then if I still want to stop, I stop. Normally I finish my workout and sometimes wind up doing more than I planned. It's a win / win as far as I'm concerned. Reaching out asking for help with motivation is a good step. At least you were motivated to do that

Thank you for sharing. It is good that you are thinking about what happened to set you back. Sometimes I get mad when I go through stressful times and gain weight or let my exercise routine go, but I try to remember that it is a new day and to do the next right thing and get back on track.

    We can do this thing!

Its is definitley unmotivating to see the weight go back on, and it is just as fustrating to try and motivate yourself. Bu you guys are absolutley right. I hope that all of you are reaching your goals and feeling great about yourselves!

Hey there! I know exactly what you mean and the fear of losing what you've worked so hard for. Using MFP and running helped me lose almost 40 pounds. I actually started a blog www.runningsforthebirds.blogspot.com ...you're welcome to stop by and read it! I share my journey as well as info that I feel has been valuable along the way. Best wishes to you!
