I really like the t-shirt material type sheets. They are warm when needing to be and cool when needing to be. I love them :) they clean up really nice too.

Not sure how to explain what microfiber is. But sheets...well, someone bought me 450-500 thread count cotton sheets a few years ago and I am in love. The higher the thread count, the nicer/softer/silkier feeling they have. But they can get pretty pricey. TJ Maxx and Marshalls frequently carry 400/500/600/800 thread count sheet sets for between $39.99-$79.99. The 450-500 thread count range is what I can afford, but I would love to have 800-1000

Yup. Get the highest thread count you can afford. Egyptian cotton is quite nice.

Cotton is usually soft, Egyptian cotton is SO soft!! Higher thread count than 300 will result in a comfy bed sheet... Anything less and they will be stiff and some can get itchy!! Buy what you can afford, but keep in mind that sheets last a long time.
  • I like a quality cotton or brushed cotton 500 thread count or higher. Thread count is per inch, so the higher number the better quality normally. If you are at the store dont be afraid to open the pack and feel the fabric with your hand, most are in zip bags. I tried satin sheets before, they looked nice but I could not sleep on them. Flannel sheets are nice for cold winter nights.

Ok I consider myself a bit of am expert in sheets.I am like the princess and the pea. If they are not perfect I can't sleep on them.
People assume thread count is the most important factor. To some degree this is true. But more important is that you get single ply long yarn cotton threads. If they are double ply then your 500tc sheets will feel like 250. And don't go too high on the tc unless you like really crisp sheets with no stretch or give. They will be vey tightly woven but won't soften up as you wash them. There are sheets at bed bath and beyond by wamsutta that are around 700 tc. They are wonderful.
I once stayed at the trump tower in Vegas. The sheets were so heavenly I called the hotel to find out who make them and order them. I can't remember then name but they are priced around $500 a set. Crazy!

BondBomb had some great recommendations. I would fallow her guidance on this matter.

From a style perspective, find the sheets you like and buy the bed set in three different colors. There's no reason that the mattress cover, top sheet, and pillow cases should match. Mix and match the combinations. The kinds of people you want to bring up to your bedroom will be impressed by the details. Nothing more boring than a set of white or gray or sky blue sheets.

This I totally agree. My sheets at present, I got from a Salvation Army op shop..The bottom is floral and the top is rainbow..Pillow cases are completely different to this....

I've searched online and found ebay have 400tc is $34.99 Aussie Dollars..I was hoping to get a plain colour set and a set where it's all different colours so I can mix them up...

I feel that there should be 4 pillow cases in a double bed sheet set..

  • I have 600 Thread Egyptian cotton sheets, I love them!! The higher the thread count the better, and treat yourself, it may seem expensive but it is something you use every day!!

I think it all depends on what your own comfort-tastes are. I like to stay cool when I sleep, so I detest flannel or jersey sheets. For me, it's 650tc cotton all the way and *always* in white. Nothing smells better to me than crisp, bleached sheets at the end of the day.

Also, a trick I picked up to beat the heat while I was growing up in humid, nasty Houston and often having no air conditioning: during the worst summer months I would *lightly* dust my fitted sheet with baby powder and rub it into the sheet thoroughly. I've passed this tip onto tons of Swedish friends who were complaining about heatwaves (rofl...they had weather of 82F! oh the humanity) and they said it helped loads.

girl, that's what I intend to do...

Does it actually matter where the sheets are made? Or so long as it's Egyptian cotton?..
