I found this great article on bodybuilding.com and thought I would share!! I will admit that for the longest time I probably Slummed around the weight area and "hardly" put in enough time & effort in any actual serious weight training. I def probably wasn't lifting as heavy as I could and for the past few months Ive really taken advice from some great friends and have focused much more on lifting weights as well as actually focusing on lifting heavier and I've got a set routine in place finally so I'm not just breezing through! It really helps having a game plan as to what muscle groups you are going to work everyday of the week & sticking to it as best as you can. this article really sets things in perspective to any woman out there who actually still fear lifting weights =)

Weight training is awesome! I can't understand why anyone, male or female, doesn't do it. It's so awesome for the body and the mind.

I love weight training! And the more muscle you have, the more fat you burn!

I noticed a huge difference in weight loss and my physique once I got into a weight training program.....the heavier I lift, the better I look!

weight training rocks. Yesterday I saw a girl with the arms I total envy on one of the free weight machines (not the cable machines but the one where you add plates) lifting heavier then some of the guys in the gym. I wanted to give her a "You go girl" but stoped myself.

    You should have!

I'm just starting on the free weight machines with plates and it is totally terrifying being the only women in there 95% of the time. Most girls never venture back to those machines.

At my local gym, I try to convince women to do more weights and I try convince men to do more cardio. Your routine should always include both.

Oh there are always girls in the free weight area of my gym but this one was really impressive.

I always do cardio and weights! I just have been devoting much more time and attention to strength training as I was in the past! =) it makes me feel good being in the weight area kickin butt right along with the boys!! Makes me feel strong and empowered and sexy!! so thats always a plus
  • So nice to see other women with the same ideas as me. I very much "dislike" cardio ( to put it nicely ). Weights really seem to be my thing. I read alot of the articles for women on simplyshredded.com

I have my weights session 3 times a week and it takes just over half an hour to do the sets but I feel so puny - I feel like my muscles are never going to manage to cope with increases. I am only at my second week in but am embarrassed at how hard some of the free weights are - I keep telling myself that in a few weeks time it will seem easy and I can start increasing - but its difficult and I know that the weights side is really importanto balance with the cardio - but still not feeling it yet :(
