Portion Control

So, there are foods out there that really take a toll on the calorie count, burgers and ice cream cones are very high on the list. Here are some things we have done in our house for the kids and for the adults to control calories and not ban anything from the house.
1. Ice Cream Cones - We found mini-sugar cones. They hold about 2 TBL of ice cream. I don't know what that is in metric, but it isn't a large amount. We then buy the favorite ice creams - full fat, full sugar if that is the favorite. Even doing that, we get an ice cream cone for about 150 calories, without sacrificing flavor. It ends up being the perfect size for the kids, and it makes for a nice treat for us too.
2. Burgers - calorie busters all over here! We get mini buns - slider bugers? Get the leanest, best quality meat we can get, try to get it from the local butcher if possible, get very thin sliced cheese, sautee onions and peppers and build the little burgers. Since the portion is automatically smaller, you save on a lot of calories right away, and find that the smaller burger can still fill you up. Add a salad, veggies or other foods to complete the meal.
Neither one of these skips the flavor or quality of the food, no diet options that don't have the flavor, or contain even scarier things than the standard foods. The key change is the portion control.

Two tablespoons of ice cream?
Better than none, and since we are getting the stuff we really enjoy, it makes it even more of a treat.0 -
The other good thing about the smaller sizes is that it is teaching my 3 and 5 year old portion control and what they really should be eating. They know some things are sometimes food and we enjoy them when we have them.0

A coffee scoop is great for 2 TBL of salad dressing. I keep an extra scoop at the office.
I always use a dixie cup for ice cream - it's certainly bigger than 2 TBL - but still not very big.0 -
great ideas. Especially for the ice cream!0
