Even though I have been going to the gym pretty consistently for 2 years, I still consider myself to be completely out of shape due to the fact that I couldn't jog a full mile if my life depended on it! So, today I decided that I needed to build my endurance so I can be a runner again (I ran track all thru Middle School and High School). I don't know why I have such a hard time with aerobics, I can't even make it thru the 15 minute Tae-Bo workout. So, this is my new goal: be able to jog a full mile by June 8th. Is that realistic?

Yes - check out the couch to 5k program - it looks like a great way to build - I've been toying with starting it.

Why did you have to put it at 2.5 mph???

My treadmill always seems to low-ball my calories burnt because it doesn't allow my to put my weight in... so it's going on an "average" persons burnt calories... whatever that means...

There are several places on the web that can help you determine what you burnt - search for "calorie calculators". Hope that helps...

It's very realistic. I think you'll find you'll be able to go even farther than that once you get going. I started running on the treadmill in January, with intervals of two minutes running and three minutes walking. It was the best I could do at the time. Last week, I did four miles straight! If I can do it, so can you!

Thanks! I plan on starting out with a routine like yours, jogging for 2 and walking 3. That's great that you can go 4 miles, hopefully I will too! Thanks for the support!

google the term "couch to 5K" there are tons of them out there, just look at the beginning week's workout to see how intense it is, and pick one that you can manage the first week. (Some start very slowly, some more aggressively, find one that you can do)

I used a 12-week program and went from unable to run any kind of distance on Thanksgiving, to running a 5K (and I ran the whole time, for 38 minutes straight) on February 1. You can totally do it!
