Ok not well lol but after weeks of trouble finally it's possible.

For anyone unfamiliar with my saga, here is the shorter version.

I used to run as a child with no problems and recently started again as part of a fitness programme. Never had knee problems until I started running about two months ago, then had tendon problems which put me on low impact exercise only for 4 weeks, plus physio etc. Got clearance then tried the C25K as a good gentle way of getting into running. Well I did day ONE and that was my knees gone again for a fortnight this time.

I then had a strange thought - I had bought Asics Trabuco shoes in early September just before I started running, as my worn out el cheapo warehouse ones were had it. And then I remembered I had done a short (7 minute) run in my old shoes with no problems.

Last night I donned my daughter's equally el cheapo numbers, and tried a run - managed 10 minutes, then a further 5 with negligible knee pain. Today I had sore calves but knees were fine. Tonight I did a total of 20 minutes and again its only the calves that are so far feeling it.

So I am thinking it was the shoes! Am tempted to try a run in the new shoes (a short one) to confirm my hypothesis.

But I am just happy that running isn't impossible for me, and it's something I can now get into and hopefully build up my fitness and endurance!

That's fantastic! Sounds like you've been very sensible about it all! You'll be clocking up miles and miles before you know it!

Ideally, you should go to a specialty running shoe store and get a fitting. Foot locker will not cut it. Be sure to let them know about any problems you have with your knees or whatnot. If you have been running or walking in your old shoes much, bring them along. They can often tell alot about what you need from the wear patterns on your soles.

I recently decided to upgrade my running shoes, and after getting advice from many MFP users, I got fitted at a specialty store. I ended up spending about $100 on my shoes, which is a bit more than I paid for the last pair, but it seems to have had a positive impact on my running.

Hey, I have a question if anyone can offer any advice?!

I have just changed my treadmill programme, I usually just do a bit of walking on it! But, it goes from 5 to 6 to 7. I know, how fast?! However, It's only for 15/30 second spurts on the 7kph and I am managing to do it! At what point do you increase the interval or speed it up?! I'm nowhere near that point at the moment...but hopefully I will be soon! :)
