my thanksgiving success

This was my first holiday experience since starting MFP. I planned on keeping my food jouranl as usual, to stay within my points, but not to be hard on myself if i go over a little. And, when I say a little, that is what i meant. I was not going to get carried away no matter what. I ate a small breakfast so I wouldn't be too hungry and had planned a small last meal and snack. For the thanksgiving meal I ate normal portion sizes of the turkey, potatoe's, gravy, stuffing, cranberry and green beans. And, I had a half of a slice of pumpkin pie with a cup of coffee. The only time I found myslef hungry was when the turkey came out of the oven and I was preparing all the extra's that go with the meal. I started to get really hungry, wanting to eat everything i saw. I didn't though. I went into the refrigerator and got a tablespoon of hummus and put it on a half of a wheat thin bagles and ate that which held me over until we all sat down to eat. This morning I weighed myself to see if i did any damage and i'm down .5 pound from thanksgiving morning.

Yes! That's the way to do it! I indulged a little -- two big pieces of pumpkin pie over the course of the day (plus pretty normal portions of the other stuff) -- but didn't gain. It can be done!!0

Great job!! Feels great to LOSE over the Holidays!0

Well done! I'm planning to go on a maintenance diet for over Christmas which will give me an extra 700 calories a day. I think just planning to not put any on over the festive period would be better than trying (and failing) to lose.
Keep up the good work0 -
way to go!!! I think that the holidays are so tied into eating for each and every one of us it is the most mentally exhausting time of the year for someone who is trying to change their eating habits. But the first thing you did was understand that you will go over your count for the day and gave yourself permission to do it. !!! woooohooo way to go!!!!0

I only went over by 65 cal. I ate a little of everything and believe too it's all about portion size. I didn't think I could do it but I did. :drinker:0

Good planning and fantastic results! "Be prepared" - it works for Boy Scouts, Mothers of small children and MFPers too!0

I went over my calories slightly as well. The numbers on the scale are showing a 1 pond gain but I know it's all water. I plan on drinking lots of water today to flush out all the sodium. Off to the gym. Have a great day everyone.0

I also lost over Thanksgiving week. My scale said 163.2 but I recorded it as 165.0 (I like to have a little leeway built in for the occasional bloat fluctuations and so on). I am now back at my 50 lbs. lost mark from highest recorded weight (overall), and down 5.0 lbs. from my official restart date of 11-11-11.
My food diary is public, should you want to check out how my day went, eating-wise.. I ate pretty normally but did go 203 calories over my daily allowance of 1,330 calories.
As to mfp's projected weight loss in 5 weeks "If every day were like today,..."? I don't take that very seriously. I'm already almost at the weight they're saying I should weigh in 5 weeks! For example, they are saying 162.3. I am very sure I'm going to lose more than ONE more pound over the next five weeks, what? Of course, how accurate it is would depend on individual metabolisms, muscle to fat ratios, etc. I personally believe it also depends on nutrition (most calories obtained from vegetables and lean proteins as opposed to starchy sweets and "empty calories" like alcohol, and so on).
Enjoy the upcoming weekend, everyone!0
