My Thanksgiving realization

Hi everyone!

I came to realize as I was gorging myself on food today (or finishing up with food actually), that it really isn't necessary to eat so much on Thanksgiving. I suppose I have seen a couple people post pretty much the same thing in various other threads, but it didn't dawn on me until I finished eating my meal. I pretty much decided that from now on, I will have some of everything and enjoy it. It isn't quite as enjoyable eating mass quantities as is eating some of it and being satisfied with what I had. As I said, I know several people have posted the same thing but it is always something different when you come to the realization on your own as well. Anyway, for more information on the revelation I had here is my blog post:

It really is a wonderful moment when you realize for YOURSELF that just a few bites of something can be just as satisfying as eating the Whole Thing.
The sad thing is that so many people DON'T get that.
    :flowerforyou: Congratulations on your Success!!

That's how I did it this year, and I actually enjoyed Thanksgiving more than I ever had before. I ate a little bit of everything.

Yes and everything tastes better without the guilt of overeating attached to it. Don't you think?
  • Unfortunately, this Thanksgiving I did overeat, but I notice with other foods I am happier just eating a smaller amount than I normally would. Why I thought Thanksgiving would be any different, I don't know. I won't overeat to such an extent next holiday or any holiday hereafter. I have finally figured out that overeating just removes the enjoyment from the food.

I was going to post the exact same topic and type the exact same text.... wow are we all really that similar? Maybe we're mindless drones in disguise....

That is a realization I came up with in the last month of working it on MFP. Luckily, I realized it before thanksgiving. I realized it when my husband was eating a piece of chocolate cake at a resutraunt. Normally, when i'm on a diet. I tell him no i can't even eat one bite of that our i'll realize what i'm missing. this time i took what would be a normal bite and cut it off the cake and nibbled off that little bite for about 4 nibbles and savored it. I enjoyed that one bite more than i've ever enjoyed an entire piece with my coffee. That is when I realized for the first time in my life that i only need one bite to enjoy what others are enjoying at a table. This Thanksgiving I was able to eat normal portions of everything and just a bite of the fattening stuff.
  • I read an article awhile back about overeating (sorry don't remember the source, so take this at whatever it's worth to you), anyway, it said that the first bite is always the best and that people overeat chasing the high of the first bite. So I make an effort to eat that first bite very slowly. It seems to help me.
