Just signed up today. Currently nursing a 6 month old. How should I adjust my daily calories?

Look up breatsfeeding in the food database, there are various options depending on frequency of feeds. Adding breastfeeding to your diary will add calories to your daily allowance and thus allowing you to eat more.

You log it under your food intake -- I just checked to see-- I went under breakfast and typed in Breastfeeding 6-12 month old and in gave -300 cals.

    Welcome to MFP :)

My midwife told me to stick around 1500 cals if you want to lose the 1lb per week recomended! That's the 1200 to lose the weight and an extra three hundred to maintain milk supply!

I have found though that even if I have no calories ( I was severely Ill for a couple of days!) your milk supply will stay steady as your body will automatically put milk production first. This means though that te rest of your body will be missing out and you will feel run down pretty quickly!

    Hope this helps!

does your baby eat solids? how often does she nurse? i nurse about 10 times a day and pump once. I am ebfing so I burn about 500 cals. Once my lo starts eating solids I'll be burning about 300 I think.
  • Thanks everyone! I found it under food, and every time I nurse (or pump) I just add it to my meals... wow do I ever get a lot more calories!!
