I just got our family pics in a month ago and in looking through the pictures I found this one.
I can't stop starting at it...
Its like I KNEW I was big but I didn't REALLY know, kwim? I've never been motivated by a picture of myself before but this has been a wake up call.
I was 216 in the picture...204 now, trying to get back to pre-baby of 150 and going from there. How do you get this big and NOT realize it??
Anyone else have pictures that changed their view on themselves?

I saw a picture of myself from last May at my brother in laws wedding and I broke down. I had already lost about 10 pounds and I felt awesome about myself but I looked terrible. I wanted to call the photographer and ask her to take it off of her website, lol. I think that being overweight sometimes causes an image distortion. Just like an anorexic looks fat to themselves in a mirror when they clearly are not, I think the obesity condition causes the opposite effect. We just dont see how big we really are.
I am big into pictures now. I still am overly self conscious about pictures but I make myself take them and I really look at them so I can have an accurate body image. I am actually considering taking some nude ones just because I am curious about what I really look like. Obviously I will delete them almost immediately, lol. But what do I really look like?0 -
denial? I don't think we really wanted to see ourselves in an honest realm (or maybe couldn't?). 99.9% of the time I only looked at my face in the mirror... didn't want to see the rest. When I use the word denial, to me denial can sometimes be what our mind uses to help us deal (or not deal with) with reality we might not be able to face at that particular time. That's such a hard question because to every single person you will look different. I guess what matters most is how you look through your own eyes. I don't have a lot pictures taken of me and like you I'm beginning to think I should. The mirror doesn't show a clear enough image...and your right there MUST be body distortion going on somewhere to not be able to see yourself for what you are.
I'm not sure that it's denial. I PROMISE if I knew I looked that bad, I would have done something about it 6 months ago. I honestly had no idea...maybe because I see myself from the front. I'm pear shaped so my stomach actually looks pretty good...but man my butt and legs are terrible.
Your right though, people usually only see what looks good or what they want to see.0 -

In the following picture I decided that the best place for me was BEHIND my girls so that noone can see my body...that's how I know a change HAS to be made!

It was a family picture of us walking away...all holding hands. Would have been cute if my *kitten* didn't distract from the rest of the picture! LOL

I actually found some others...They're both from this past summer and made me CRINGE when I saw them! The one in the bathing suit was taken from a friend. The one in the orange shirt was taken in July, when I went to Vegas with a friend. I bought the shirt at the costco there in Vegas, and thought I actually looked really good in it...I didn't realize it was that tight fitting and I didn't realize I looked that gross...next time I go to Vegas...I'll be in a hot dress!

Seeing this picture made me tear up and know that it was time for a change. Here I was 239. I have lost 13 lbs in the past three weeks. I will weigh in tomorrow to see if I lost more.0 -
This isn't the photo, actually, but it's as good as any. (I can't find the one I wanted online any more, and I'm not at my own computer at home.) Halloween this year. There's a couple of layers under that dress, but really... it's not THAT loose. And that is not how I picture myself. (Well, okay, I do picture myself as that capable of kicking butt and taking names most of the time. Just in the metaphorical, not the physical, sense.)0 -
