Unfortunately, I have learned over the last 30 years, its true. But the great thing is, the longer it takes you to lose weight, the likelihood of you keeping it off increases. Lifestyle changes are the key. Keep eating the foods you love, just don't eat them all gone. The first bite of anything is the most satisifying!0

it all depends on ur calories...if u have a deficit of 500 when losing and a surplus of 500 when gaining then obviously both will be the same. I think that people say this to mean you should have patience when losing weight and not get frustrated when results are slow and to also mean you should not get bummed out if you go way over on a particular day because the extra calories are not gonna make you fat overnight. I agree with both of these.0

To gain 4 pounds of fat in two days, you would have to have eaten 14,000 calories OVER your TDEE. It would be pretty hard to do that. So you have to assume most of that 4 lbs is water. You can lose that in two days, too, but in neither case is it "weight" lost or gained, just water that pauses in your blood stream a few days before ending up as urine.
You should ignore about the first 5 lbs of weight you lose, more if you had noticeable ankle swelling before you started. The real weight loss is just as slow at the beginning as when you "plateau," but the water weight goes up and down within that 5 lb range from day to day.0
