Just to let you know that walmart does not employ teenagers and hasn't for around 6 years now. If you google any company for bad reports by customers you will get tons of complaints. That is just a cost of doing buisness thats all. If the brakes feel off then that falls under the manufactuer not who puts it together. Besides as a consumer you should always make sure that the nuts, bolts ect.. is always tight and secure. Plus you do get the assembly directions and warrenty with the bike. Plus you do have the option at some stores to get a bike that is not put together that is still in the box if you want it that way.

Hee... HAHAHAHAHAHA. What? Our local Wal-Mart is like 90% staffed by teenagers! That's a pretty silly statement to make.
  • erm you do realise that WalMart don't manufacture their bikes in the same way they don't actually cook all those ready meals and they don't can their own baked beans. We use the same suppliers as actual stores do so we're at risk of the same problems as every other store is when the manufacturer makes a goof up.

We also don't employ teenagers, haven't done since oh, 2002 ish?

As it happens I know of someone who did pull the brakes off their bike through sheer stupidity but then he is a numpty in general (and no he wasn't actually trying to do it).

To get back to the original question asked....I think your asking a good question....You may want to try to get an older bike and have it fine tuned at a bike shop invest in a good seat and good tires...so far as being too fat for a bike I dont think that anyone that has pretty good mobility is too heavy,...we all have to start somewhere....go invest in the bike if you find that your too heavy or that you cant really get up enough stamina..then u have something NON food related as a reward for yourself.....if you have the money I would also go to a bike shop and have them fit you for a bike...it will be costly but I know they have some pretty neat bike out there with really comfortable seating not like a standard bike.good luck and let me know when ya start riding!! Im planning to buy a bike myself this summer

I brought my Huffy bike to my local bike store to have the brakes checked and a slow leak fixed. He wouldn't even touch it. He said they build them with parts that need specific tools. If anything happens their insurance doesn't cover them.

    Just sayin'.

Wow, I never heard of such a thing. We have a great bike shop in our area. We take all of our bikes to them and they do all the work we ask. We have never bought a bike from them but for general maintance they do all of the work we need done. (My dh's bike was bought at another bike shop and it was very expensive so it has to last forever. )

I think the suggestions about a comfortable seat will help you get on the bike a second and third time. Remember, Wal-Mart takes returns if you don't want to keep it, just don't loose the receipt. But I would suggest trying the free pages on the computer to see if someone is giving a bike away. That's how I got my stationary bike and it has helped me a lot. Free is good. Give it a try and when your done with it, pass it on for the next person who's needs a place to start.
