NSV - jogging!

So this would not be much to most people, I suppose, but last night on the treadmill I was able to jog at 4.5mph - even if it was only for 2 minutes at a time. 6 weeks ago, when I started working out again and started MPF, I could barely keep up with a 2.5mph walk without feeling like I was dying or my knees would give out, so this is a HUGE thing for me. One of my fitness goals is to be able to jog/run an entire 5K when I get down near my goal weight. I feel stronger than I have in years (especially my legs - I can feel muscles I haven't felt in who know how long!), and I'm starting to crave that feeling you get when you exercise. It's no longer a chore, but rather something I enjoy and look forward to.

This is quite exciting to me :D

Congrats! I understand completely. I consider 4.5 mph running. Even at my best I am never much more than 5.5 mph and I have done 4 half marathons at that pace (run 4 min / walk 5 min over and over). The fact that you are moving and improving is what counts. It doesn't matter how fast you go. Good luck on your goal toward your 5K.

I think its super what you have been able to accomplish!! 97lbs ago I could barely walk 50ft without my back/knees/hips/ you name it hurting! Now i can do an hour on the elliptical with very little problem!
Of course I still have some hip pain but it is so much better without all the weight!

Keep up the great work and a BIG congrats!

That is awesome and I completely understand how proud you are of yourself :) When I started jogging I could only do so for 30 seconds at a time...and that was after I had already lost 30 pounds! Two days ago I ran for 44 minutes without stopping!!! You are awesome and you will reach your goal of doing a 5k! Have an amazing day :):):)

Congrats to you! Beware, running is super addictive :)
  • Thanks for the inspiration, I'm just getting started on the Couch to 5 K, and 4.5 miles per hr is still a goal for me :). Glad to see you are doing it.

Great Job! You should be proud of your accomplishment. I know what a big deal that is. A year ago I could barely walk..today, I am running 3.5 miles without stopping to walk.. If I can do it, anyone can do it! Keep up the great work.. feel free to add me if you'd like
