Any chefs? - Looking for shoe advice

I'm starting Culinary Arts school in January and I need to get some good shoes for the kitchen. They must be black with no-slip soles (like Shoes for Crews or SafeTstep). I also have knee problems. I know lots of chefs wear clogs, but I'm wondering if the sneaker type might have better support. I've worn Reeboks on standing 8hr shifts doing sales and my feet were fine, but I'm not sure what would have similar support and cushioning with the no-slip sole.
Any thoughts or recommendations? Thanks!

Chef here. I get mine through shoes for crews. Right around $60 for a decent pair on non slips.

Retired Chef here. I liked Tred Safe shoes. Non-slip, different styles, black and about $25.00 at Wal-Mart.

Whatever shoes you buy, make sure you replace them every six months or as soon as your back or legs or feet begin to hurt. They all wear out, and you need good shoes.

I've done the same and been very happy with them.

I was a deli manager for years, with a major grocery chain. We had a chicken fryer that made for a very slippery floor. I wore tred safe for years for there slip resistance and for that, they worked great. But when I started having other problems with my achillies tendon (not because of the shoes) one of my drs. told me to get some rocker bottom shoes. Thats when I found Skechers shape ups for work. They were black and slip resistance and the rock from the way the shoe was designed, helped me in so very many ways. It took a few days to get used to the work up they gave me, after they they feel like they take the struggle out of walking, they are comfortable and feel like walking on squishy clouds.

Go look for some nursing shoes. You can buy them at nursing supply stores, and they are amazing for being on your feet all day.

Former chef. Dansko clogs are the bomb.

Avoid athletic shoes at all costs.
