Hi Everyone

I have reached my first goal weight and lost 10 kilos. Now I have lost my motivation after hitting a plateau with another 10kilos still to go.
I know i must go on but there's a little demon in my ear who keeps making me eat things i shouldnt. How have you dealt with this mountain of a problem when dieting?

I lose my motivation almost every day! Have to keep going on, even if it is without that motivation. : )

I do all the time. My family and I went out for lunch today. They give you free dinner rolls when you sit down. I knew I shouldn't have one but I did anyway. Come to find out that dinner roll, alone, was 227 calories. UGH!!!! But that's ok. Nobody is perfect and we all have slip ups. Just get back on it and try a little harder and push yourself a little further next time. Don't give up! You've come too far. You can do it!

Take this process one day at at time. Set small daily goals instead of only looking at the big picture :) You CAN do this!
  • when I lose motivation I usually give myself a treat day (nothing too overboard) and then the next day I'm ready to get back into it because I just think if everyday was like that I'd be back to square one :) x

When I start to feel a little down or feel sorry for myself for having to run in the rain or snow, I watch this video. Not only does it get me moving but it makes me get all teary eyed.

Never ever give up!! Even if you have to take a little break to reassess things ( i do from time to time).. never ever give up. Losing steam is normal - work through it and you'll find your motivation again.

First of all, good job on losing 10 kg!! That's a lot! I'm still trying to get there myself.

Think of how much better you feel after losing that much weight... now thing of how you'll feel when you reach your final goal. Keep those two ideas in mind when motivation seems far away. And keep in mind that YOU have done this, YOU have been strong and committed enough to do something great for yourself. Don't you think you're worth the extra effort to lose 10 kg more? Let me tell you: you totally are!

So get your b*tt off the couch, stop eating junk and get this done! Enjoy everyday, appreciate every new step. You deserve it :flowerforyou:

It's tough, but look at the inspirational people on MFP including Leona above me. When I feel like giving up, I browse thru these message boards and look at those who have been at it for years. I think surely I can handle longer. In the scheme of things, it's only been a few months out of years of my life. If I can hold on just a little longer, I can reach my goal, and you can too! Good luck! Stay with it!

Remind yourself that if you slack and do not continue your way, you will lsip back into old habbits and the ten kg you hve lost, will be on again in no time, maybe even more if you are not kicking yourself in the butt. The other thing is to increase your exercising regime. Do something that really kicks you, that you enjoy. And maybe take a treatday once a week, when you will beallowed those food that you shouldn't have all the time. Also, it always helps to go and look for alternatives. I.e. I love pizza, but rather than going for a fullfat, tons of meet and cheese one... I have found one with grilled vegetables and low fat cheese... and it tastes awesome... this way I can still have the pizza but it has nearly half the calories of the other one.
For me it was a massive breakthrough a couple of summers ago after losing 34kg (and yes, unfortunately I slacked after and have put 21 on again)... we went to a festival and were carrying backpacks roughly weighting 25kg... I was huffing and puffing my way through the area and kept thinking to myself, this is what your body had to carry around with it in extras... at that time it was a very good motivation to keep things up and going...
  • Dr. Phil says that motivation is over rated! You must change your lifestyle or you will not succeed. Don't know if he is
right or not, but it does make sense. Good Luck........

lol you need motivation to change your life style though. The only thing I can say is if you keep at it, it becomes second nature and you stop thinking about it. It's a bit like having your five a day - first you think you never gonna get there, then suddenly you find yourself in the middle and finally you get to the point where you a cranky if you don't have it.
And don't only focuss on the weight, sometimes we weight more and are still more healthy than the person next to us with a lower weight ^^

I try to post this everyday, for myself and as a reminder to everyone. Dont beat yourself up, you'll get it back.. You know why? Because you're not in denial, you realize whats going on. KNOW GET MOVING!!!!!!!!!!!>>>>Im Watching YOU:glasses:

“Work every day. No matter what has happened the day or night before, get up and bite on the nail.”

There will always be plenty of reasons why you can't, won't, or shouldn't eat well or exercise on a given day.
Your challenge is to decide if you'll give those excuses enough power to derail your
dream or whether you'll “bite on the nail” and stay committed enough, consistently enough, to really do it—day in and day out, no matter what.
Though Hemingway wrote nine novels and nearly 70 short stories, he was not a prolific writer.
He was, however, disciplined and consistent, producing an average of two pages a day. His strategy:
“Work every day. No matter what has happened the day or night before, get up and bite on the nail.”

In a USA Today survey, 805 American adults were asked, “What caused you to stop dieting before losing all the weight you wanted?”
The top two reasons? 39% said they got “discouraged”; 24% cited a “lack of interest.”

Remember: The more enthused, the more you lose! ..I'll drink to that(water of course,lol..or Protein shakes..YUM!)

I do my best not to listen to my little demon. I used to listen a lot and got nowhere. then I just started planning a once a week treat and cleaned out the cupboards and fridge of all the "bad" stuff and stocked up on "good" stuff. Hubby has his hoard of goodies somewhere but it no longer bothers me and I stopped looking ages ago!!! (never did find them!)

Having the friends I do has made it so much easier to get back to where I was.......

Not to say I don't slip up every now and then. I just get back on track ASAP.

Maybe try some new foods and exercise to get over the hump?

The longer you eat better the more it becomes a habit. Heck, I get downright cranky if I don't get to have my cottage cheese and pineapple or my greek yogurt and honey!

The longer you exercise the more your body craves it. I walk everyday and again, I get cranky if I don't.

All my best to you and Remember....You CAN do this!!!!!
