Anyone else terrified?

As I get closer and closer to my goal weight I get more terrified. I am afraid that I won't have control over my cravings and just go crazy. The thought of not eating something and staying in my limits is easier when i know i have weight to lose. I know I want to improve my physical fitness, run more, build muscle, etc, but i don't think the mental part will be the same. Whats going to keep me form grabbing more chocolate or having extra dinner and lunch?
I've lost 120 pounds that's a person!!! I have literally lost a whole person, and I don't ever want to see them again.
I don't plan on changing anything, i still plan to log everything I eat and exercise.,
It's just a number, so why does it bother me so much? I am afraid to gain weight

You'll be fine! :) Don't think negatively. You've gotten this far! If you gain a little after you get to your goal weight, you will now know how to keep it in check and lose the extra lbs.

    Good luck!

I set a new goal for 10 pounds less. I may reach it. That's the plan. I may take a while to get there, but it gives me something to strive for, even if my body does not seem to want to cooperate. And even if I eat more than I should, or eat a big dessert, I will make myself get back in the groove to make up for it.

I am terrified everyday! I just remind myself that I did this one day at a time...some were good, some were bad...and the rest of my life will be lived the same way...one day at a time.

Don't be afraid. You have already acquired the skills that you need to handle this. Just continue your new lifestyle, and everything will be fine. Maybe you should think about other physical fitness goals that you would like to pursue. Now that you are at the weight that you want, do you have the muscle tone that you want? Is there some physical activity that you have always wanted to participate in? I'm sure if you think hard enough, you can think of a new fitness goal to give yourself that will help you maintain your new body in a healthy way. Congratulations on your success. I can't wait to share those shoes with you! Best of luck!

I completely hear ya on this one!! I have been thinking about "how" to maintain for a few months already (as I am terrified as well!), and I still have at least 20 more pounds to lose!

I have come up with a couple of thoughts for myself (however, none of them have been tested out yet... haha). My favourite one so far is:
"Bank" my workout calories, and allow myself to binge on my biggest craving once a week. Calories could only be banked from Sunday to Saturday. After Saturday night, you lose them for the week and start fresh on Sunday. I feel that this will allow me to still feel like I can cheat, and not feel as guilty about it. If I want to cheat more, I have to exercise more, as easy as that...

Otherwise, I have thought about the following:
    - stick to my maintenance calorie goal on a daily basis and eat my exercise calories, but allow myself to have ANY fruits and veggies (plain) if I am ever hungry or snacky. This would possibly work for me because I LOVE my fruit, but feel guilty at times as it adds up in calories so much.
    - Stick to my LOSS calorie goal 6 days a week, but do not count calories on th 7th day.

Not too sure what will work.... I also feel what works for 1 person, may not always for another...

Best of luck no matter what you decide! ;)

There is always going to be some fluctuation. That is why I chose a goal that was 10 lbs less than what I thought I wanted to be. That way, I can just stay within the range and be happy.

The difference in a "Diet" and Lifestyle change is a Change of MIND-Set! While you change your Eating Habits, you should have also been changing your mind and emotional concepts. These are MUCH harder than following an eating plan. So, I wish you the very Best because the most difficult stuff is ahead...WELLNESS is a NEVER Ending Journey, the Physical part for Me is just the beginning.

    I wish You Well.

I know where you are coming from. I am trying to make this a life style change but will I be able to control the cravings and if I eat one bite of something then eat the whole bag will it all be over. I have 50 more pounds to lose but I think about it. I have yo-yoed so much I keep thinking "will it stick this time?".

But you have to try. You cannot give up just like I cannot give up. I plan on being on MFP forever. Once I lose the weight I will log in everyday for maintanence. I cannot let one bad day turn into a week, month and then year. We have nothing to fear but fear itself. If I hold on to the fear then I will let it take over and I will gain the weight back. I have nothing to fear and neither do you because no matter what we are beautiful inside and out.

Your post, and many others I've read, makes me wonder if the valiant effort to lose weight (especially a lot of it) can sometimes come at a cost of losing other parts of yourself. If what you eat, and how much you exercise, consumes most of your daily thoughts and effort... well, that describes your average person with an eating disorder, doesn't it? Maybe the thing to do is work on trusting your body to tell you what it needs, and focusing on a new health goal that is NOT related to weight or fitness? Like (and I am just thinking out loud here) stress management? Ever thought of taking up meditation? (Now that's healthy!) A new hobby? Direct your obvious dedication and perseverance into another arena, but keep your healthy eating and fitness routine intact, basically. Might help with the terror. Just a thought....

You have been successful losing the weight and YOU WILL BE SUCCESSFUL keeping it off. Keep your maintenance menus simple and MEASURE EVERYTHING! Don't keep a lot of your temptation foods in the house or where you can get to them easily. Don't have the candy dish full for company or the cookie jar stocked. Keep logging in what you eat. And EXERCISE! You can do this. You are young and smart and have set goals for yourself. Just keep your eye on those and you will be okay. I have so much faith in your ability to do this!!! Good luck!!

I understand where you are coming from. I have expressed the same feelings to my spouse. The important part is to never forget how far you have come. I often look back on old pictures and remind myself of where self control and discipline got me. I think as long as well all stay active and stay in control of our bodies we will be fine. When ever I have thought about grabbing an extra chocolate or extra helping of anything I think about how hard I will have to work off those calories in the gym.

You should be extremely proud of yourself for losing 120lbs! That is outstanding! We are all proud of you. keep up the great work!

You will be sucessful because you want to be. it dosn't sound as though you will stop caring about being healthy when you hit your goal weight... Personally it is the knowledge of not wanting to gain that keeps me within my calorie limit even now. And the good news is that you CAN have more food if you want it because you'll be upping your calories to maintain.

My advice is to stay on MFP and keep logging what you eat, that way you definately won't go over your calories and you can keep your cravings for 'bad foods' in check.

    All the best :)

Honestly it's not so bad. I stopped doing the "diet" thing for about a month and just ate what I felt like... and believe it or not, I didn't gain all 60lbs back!!! I didn't gain a single pound! I think once you slowly introduce your body back to regular foods or eating what you REALLY like again (c'mon lets admit it, none of us are here because we LOVE salads) you just need to keep moderation in mind and you won't balloon up :)
