Sick, lacking in energy and generally not where I want to be

So I wil admit, I'm a newbie to MFP but I have found it to be truly motivating. I have not gotten where I'd like to be in the past couple of weeks, however. Being very sick with a lung/cough issue over this holiday has made exercise an impossibility while sucking away my energy, destroying any desire to enter in my food log. It seems as though my low weight as of a week ago was a tease, as I haven't hit that again the past couple times I've weight myself. I guess I'm using this post as a bit of a stream of consciousness way to process my thoughts, but also as a bit of a shout-out for support and motivation. Any words of encouragement would be most appreciated.

First, let me say that I hope you feel better soon! Second, don't let the minor setback get you down. I've been working on this program for a year now. I'm not where I would like to be but I am 40 lbs lighter than I was a year ago:-) You can definitely do this. I have found that even if I just get up and jog in place for a few minutes I feel much better at the end of the day. Keep up the good work and you'll be where you want to be in no time! Good Luck!!!

I've been exactly where you are!! I started out great and then got a chest infection and everything went badly for nearly a month! The good news is that it DOES get better again, and you can put what you learned into practice!

What it taught me was that even if all I eat for an entire day is chocolate or fried food or comfort food, I *WILL* log it. If I don't, I pretend it hasn't happened and then wonder why I'm not losing any lol!

Log everything, drink plenty, and exercise whenever you're ready for it! I'm right alongside you :D

Words of encouragement...you've come to the right place. :flowerforyou:

I know where you are with your dieting/exercising/health...I'm trying to get over a knee injury (surgery that didn't heal according to plan and I have gained 20 more pounds) and the frustration can be overwhelming. My self talk is to take it day by day...moment by moment sometimes. Since joining MFP about a month ago, I've gotten a lot of encouragement and self-strenght from people and it has really helped! I still get frustrated when I see people who have burned off a trillion calories with biking/running/30DS/etc and my best is 30 minutes of situps and small workouts.

Keep it in perspective and you'll do great. Feel free to add me as a friend and we can support each other.

    Don't give up...

Wow, thanks so much....exactly what I needed to hear. I think I need to heed to the "log everything" rule. What a fantastic one--it's true, if I don't have face the reality that it happened. Going to log right now!

I joined MFP in June when I came down with a bad cold/flu. I adjusted my goals as I was recovering (because you don't generally do too much activity when you can't breath 100%).

Glad I joined MFP as it helped me keep track and now I have a great support team propping me up when I get down.

Feel free to friend me if you wish.

    Cheers

One of the great things about the slow steady approach is that it allows us to experience and learn tools for coping with life. Once committed to a fitness journey, the easiest part is when we are able to follow our set path with no diversions. But if we are living, we will face diversions, setbacks, celebrations, plateaus, wonderful things, horrible things; we will experience and live life.

Having now experienced illness on your journey, evaluate what you would do differently and the same the next time you are ill. Then get back on your fitness path. Try to learn from others. The comments here have reminded me that I am not immune from colds and flu and that I should make sure that I have some low sodium soups in my freezer (canned soups are what I crave when I have a cold and they reek havoc on my blood pressure).

I am sorry you have been sick, but just by asking for motivation, I know you can and will move forward on toward optimal fitness for you as defined by you.
