Anyone else using their iPhone as a HRM?

My pervious cheap $30 heart rate monitor stopped working a couple weeks after I bought it. I've been using MFP to guess my exercise calories, but got nervous that it isn't very accurate. SO, I decided to order a Digitfit Connect and Garmin Heart Rate Monitor Chest Strap and should expect to receive it in a week or two.
I'm kind of nervous about working out with my phone on me or near me. I'm wondering if anyone has experience with using their iPhone as a HRM? How close I need to keep my phone to me while working out? I typically work out indoors at home now, so I'm hoping that keeping my phone in the same room near me - but not on me is sufficient enough. I don't want to get sweat all over it!

Edit: I tried to include a hyperlink but it didn't work.

I purchased a Mio Drive+ heart rate monitor (calculates calories burned, has multiple stopwatch/timers, etc.) at Best Buy over the weekend. It's normally $80 but was on sale for $30. My sister found it and bought me one so that I didn't have to run out there to wait in line, meanwhile everyone else is there for TVs and XBox :) There's no chest strap, which is great, and basically looks like a big digital watch. It is admittedly a bit large for me, but it is supposed to be unisex.

It says online right now that it is $79.99, but it was $30 earlier this weekend. Perhaps in-store it is still on sale, or maybe you can find it cheaper online.

Unfortunately I can't answer your question, as I have a Droid phone!

I'm waiting for my polar watch to get to me, with your phone get an arm band, they're awesome. Wish I'd known about those strapless watches before I splashed out on the polar

Strapless watches aren't good for continuous HR and average HR monitoring.... that's important!
