Non-numeric goals

Hi all,

I have hit my first goal weight and do not see that shifting in the near future.

I have other challenges, some in the fitness arena, and I would like to be able to say 'yay, I've hit my goal'.

Firstly, health-wise, I have a LOT of flab that will take a few years to go - not encouraging to use that to measure. Walking or running is out, as are heavy weights - I tried curling 12kg (25lb) approx according to body builders, but my wrist joints go out.

I have Hypermobility, so I was starting Yoga and was going to set a goal of doing all the poses, but my joints 'pop out' while doing some of the bendy stuff (e.g. hip).

Just want to wipe some brain fog out of the way and get suggestion for something that is not really measured on a scale.

Any ideas ?

FR me too, if you have been through and overcome.

Thanks,

Gary

I recently joined a gym, Oct. 1st to be exact. I was hesitant to do anything other than a treadmill and to see my personal trainer for 6 times per month. I decided a few weeks ago to try the "spin class". I really like the instructor and I'm happy to say that I stayed for the full hour of the class. BUT, with that said my *kitten* never left the seat. If I told myself that I couldn't do it "EXACTLY" the way everyone else was, I would have ONLY gone for that one class. I realize that I'm not in FABULOUS shape, yet. But with that said, it's not going to stop me from trying my BEST and to get better at IT every week. Sorry for the long reply Gary, I just needed to say it :) You can DO IT, I have faith :-)

Have you tried swimming? Swimming is great cardio and strength!! It is very easy on the joints too :) You can also use resistant things to walk in the water and stuff. The local Y will have a cheap membership to their pool! Or maybe a recumbent bike? They are also easy on the joints! My mil has pretty much no cartilage in her knee and is way over due for a knee replacement but she can use them!

edit: Wow I read that way wrong lol. But You can also measure your progress with those two options! You can time your laps, have a goal to do a 500m then do a faster 500m swim etc.

@puffins - yes, a goal of a time, or 'sticking it out' - brilliant

@lcchrt - I have actually taken up paddling in a pool. Maybe I should get lessons and try to improve. Even if it takes an hour to do 500m, the next time 59 mins is an improvement. Hey, THANKS.

    Think I sent u FR.
