Working Through Injuries

HI all!
I hurt my back on Wed, then messed up my knee Saturday. It's really frustrating since I LOVE working out and enjoy getting such a high from it. It bothers me more to miss the high, than the pain of the injury. Sitting and resting is not my cup of tea. I'm doing my best to modify my workouts, but it is frustrating since I'm not getting the high right now. I don't even care about weight or measurements, but just to get that free feeling high again. To feel that I'm on top of the world!
In the past, I'd drain my sorrows into a pizza, beer or some kind of food. I'd love to be comforted in the arms of a great guy, but that is not a reality at the moment. :brokenheart: With so many changes going on the last 4 months, I feel a little needy and wish I had more support, but I'm thankful for what I receive.
I am determined to keep going...just trying to find the right balance. I hobbled to the gym today, just to get some upper body work and swim which wasn't a high, but it did make me feel a little better. I am so glad I was able to move around and get out of the house! I'm so stubborn, if I have to crawl to the gym I WILL! I am so thankful, that I was able to do something today! THANK YOU BODY!
Is anyone else going through similiar struggles? I'm so angry  that I abused my body and wish I would have had this determination when I was younger. I've had past obstacles that have got the best of me, but I WILL NOT FAIL! I WILL SEE THIS THROUGH!

WOW! A back AND a knee injury? You like to go all out huh? I saw the topic and had to come take a look because I hurt my shoulder today. I can still go for a walk, but no tae-bo or push-ups for awhile. :grumble: I don't have advice on how to work through it. I can tell you that I feel for ya and wish you a quick recovery!:flowerforyou:0

Another endorphin junkie like myself! Hi! I would suggest, in addition to the modifications, like you've been doing, to ice down the injured area for 20 min. after exercising. Wrapping the knee during a workout is also good for quick warming and added support. Some sort of anti-inflammatory wouln't hurt either. It doesn't have to be NSAIDS (aspirin, tylenol etc.), but also pineapple works wonders as an anti-inflammatory. No, it won't get you your high, but it can get you over your injuries sooner, so you can get that high again!
Also, look at how you injured yourself. If it's from overexertion, then some modification to your regular workout is needed. Increase in intensity slowly. Sometimes our knees don't get the endorphin memo, and we do ourselves more harm than good. Yep! Know from experience! Done it many times! FINALLY learning my lesson - I HOPE!
Give yourself time to heal, otherwise you'll end up with a chronic injury (re-injury).
Be Blessed,

Tomorrow will be my first day back at the Yin two weeks. I pulled a muscle in my neck three weeks ago but the first week I just took tons of Motrin and went anyway...then I paid big time. I ended up in ALOT of pain and taking perscription muscle relaxants. It is still a bit sore but better so tomorrow I am going to try again. I was able to do some modified exercises but the medicine made me really tired and loopy so I couldn't safely drive.
I was also really frustrated. :grumble:
I am sorry that I cannot offer any real advice except to say I wish I had rested the muscles right away instead of pushing it. I ended up worse because of pushing it.
Hope you are better soon.0 -
Thanks for the replies. I have iced, motrin'ed, wrapped, massaged, medicated...etc. etc.! The weird thing is....my knee feels better after I went swimming! LOL I'm just wondering if my patella is out of place!? At least my back is coming along.
Biomechanically, a PT told me my "Q" angle is off (hip to knee angle) which leads to issues. Off and on, they bother me, its just this time is more painful.
I appreciate the support and I hope we all get through the obstacles!:bigsmile:0 -

It's not so much that it's off, it's just that yours is a little larger than one would hope for which predisposes you to having knee problems.0
