C25K discrepancy?!

So I've been doing the C25K with a couple of my MFP gals.. and I am starting to notice a discrepancy between the C25K app that I downloaded (which is C25K by runhelper) and the cool running website...

Anyone else notice a difference? It's a pretty big difference. At week 5 they have us running 20 minutes at cool running, but my app has me doing 9 and 5 minute intervals on that same day?

i used the c25k app by runhelper last year and remember a 20 minute run at the end of week 5. W5D3) Either way, both programs are going to get you where you need to be; running 30 minutes straight.

    Good Luck!
  • Yeah, mine is different too. I think it may be because the app isn't an "official" C25k app... I'm not sure. I trust the Cool Running website. I've never even used my app all the way through a particular training day because I can't stand the voice chiming in saying "halfway there" when I feel like DYING, LOL.

Mine does not have this at Week 5 Day 3, mine has

    Run 9 minutes Walk 2
    Run 5 minutes Walk 2
Run 2 minutes Walk cool down

Week 6 however has a 20 minute run Day 2
  • I like the app. But I am only on week two. I don't have a voice that chimes in though, just a tone that lets me know to change pace.

I love that the voice keeps me ging... 1/2 way there... although I want to kill it sometimes when it says i"m ONLY halfway there...

You're lucky. I have three different options for voices - soft male, soft female and "drill sergeant". All of them are annoying and when I'm ready to quit, I really don't want to hear that I'm not even close to finishing!

  • One company (Bluefin) was recently asked to stop using the C25k name and plan, so they made their own. If you want to keep doing C25K (and who wouldn't!), just don't update the app. If you don't update, the app should continue just as it was before.

I just did W6D1 this morning and I love, love, love C25K. Ran my first 5k on Thanksgiving in 34:48. :)

Mine is runhelper not Bluefin.. and it hasn't needed an update since I downloaded it last year
  • Huh, then I dunno.

Good job doing the program. Good luck going forward.

wait I just searched my app and it is by Bluefin powered by runhelper, same company I would guess
  • I like the podcasts from NHS Couch to 5K . The voice is soothing and very encouraging.

Those are the guys who were forced to stop using C25K. When I found that out I decided just to keep doing c25k just as I was, no matter what. Like I said, I think if I just don't update when they try to get me to (and my bet is it will happen very soon, if you check our current app is no longer available to purchase), my app will keep going as it was, with the right intervals. If you do the same, you should be okay! Are you using an Apple device? They are currently trying to get their update/new app approved by Apple. It's already available for android.
