I have been doing a set walk now over 5 miles for a few weeks, i have built it up now to do this every evening.
I have started to do some running with it, so walk jog walk jog,
Last night each time i started to jog i would count to 60, tonight i went for 75 and even up to 100 before i had to stop,
Is this the best way to build it up, and should i be taking water with me, so far i havent,
Thanks for any help with this

it's exactly what the couch to 5K program teaches you.....great way to build it up!. Good luck0

I have been doing the Couch 2 5 K (on the treadmill) and it is the same: walk, jog, walk, jog with a gradual increase to jog only. Keep it up! :happy:0

Yes I am doing Couch to 5 K and it is basically that. Look at it and follow it: http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_3/181.shtml
I take water, not that I dehydrate so fast, but mostly because when it is cold, my throat hurts if I don't drink since I breath with my mouth. Of course it really depends how much you sweat. I don't sweat much...0 -
thanks for that, will see how i get on tomorrow0

OP-- Great job. That will build your endurance slowly and before you know it you will be running more than walking. No need to bring water with you at this stage. Good luck - keep it up!
doornumber3. Love the profile pic. What marathon did your wife run? I'm in MA too.0 -

Thanks!. My wife did the Boston Marathon last year with a charity team ....team in training-- such a great organization that raises money for leukemia and lymphoma!0 -
Carrying a drink can be a pain, but I like to stick some seedless grapes in my pocket for those "I'm parched!" moments.0

Wow. Good for her. My bother, his wife and their oldest ran for the Samaritans. I did the PMC instead. Not sure I have 26.2 in me. Keep me posted if she is running again next year I will donate.0 -

One more tip -- If you are running outside try using telephone poles as a guide. Run two walk one. Run three walk one. Might be easier than counting.0 -
