Has anyone gone without cheating?

Since I started MFP 40 days ago I've been cheating badly... 4 bad cheat days and eating junk food while staying under my limits... I lost 20 lbs but I realize that I could have lost more if I had not cheated and if I had eaten only good foods. Does anyone NOT cheat at all or is it psychologically impossible to avoid eating crap for long periods of time?

I haven't really cheated, but I did go over what I wanted to one day and I didn't feel bad about it because I was still in the green.
  • Its soooooooooooooo hard!!! I've stuggled with this issue too, but this is a life style change so I just try to learn from it and then try to correct it. I feel that you do have to treat yourself sometimes though too :)

I don't consider anything I do to be "cheating". If I go over, I know I'm going to go over, and don't worry about it.

I live life the best I can. If I go over, it's not cheating. There is nothing I can't eat. There are things I try to eat occasionally or seldom. But if I eat them, I try not to consider it "cheating."

I cheat all the time. Not too serious. I take bites here and there so I can get it out of my system. Otherwise, I get GROUCHY. I had a ton of popcorn and Coca Cola the other day. THAT was a BIG cheat for me!

You may be wrong, when you cheat you through your body, some extra, and your metabolism can like that. I have found that if I eat all my calories including my exersize cal and even a bit more some times kicks my body in to a burning machine. NOT saying every one should do this but hey it worked for me

did you hear about that guy that lost weight just eating twinkies??

I've cheated a couple of times.. I think it's necessary to remind yourself why you are doing this in the first place.. The first time I went for a large burrito.. and I felt so awful after... it like kick started my motivation..

you have 4 cheat days.. but 36 good days.. 36... That puts 4 cheat days to shame.. Good news is you are heading in the right direction.. Who cares when you get there.. just keep losing weight..

I cheat every day! Everything in moderation! I usually have something that most would consider "the wrong" choice but I am working on chaning my lifestyle and part of that is diet! However, I never deprieve myself of anything....if I wanted a chocolate bar I eat....I might work out harder at the gym....its finding the right balance! My theory is that if 90% of the time I pick the right thing I am doing pretty well....I have lost 46 pounds since March and over 80 in the last year and a bit! I think it helped me to find balance and moderation instead of not having anything and then getting frustrated! Just my thoughts! You are doing great and its always going to be a work in progress!!!!!
  • I tried but after about a week I crashed on my fiet.gave in and gained like 3 pounds...We are all different some people can and some I would say cant help it..lol..I have a cheat day once a week...nothing major or to much cause it keeps me focus and put me back on track cause i feel guilty..lol..so i sick to my diet even more:)

We are alll different when it comes to whats junk...You be the judge and if you feel you ca do better...do it and dont doubt yourslf...I think your doing an amazing job..keep it up and the best of luck to you:)

I think I'm genetically wired to "cheat". Yet I have lost weight. It may take years, but I will lose as much as I can before throwing in the towel for good.

I think your thinking is a bit misguided. You've lost 20 lbs in 40 days. That's what, 3.5 lbs per week? You're already losing faster than the recommend healthy pace, which is 2 lbs/week for those who have very much to lose; 1 lb / week for those who have a moderate amount to lose; and .5 for those who are close to goal.

I'm not sure what you consider a cheat day, but you say above that you still stayed under your calorie goal. As you can see, by the numbers, you had room to go over your goal some days. And/or your daily calories also could be higher in general.

Your profile says you are a yo-yo dieter. Stop that behavior right now. Break the pattern. Stick to a reasonable calorie deficit and a reasonably paced weight loss, and you will be cured of the yo-yo syndrome forever.

Regroup and do this the healthy way and succeed in the long run. Or keep looking for ways to make this faster, and over the long run you will continue to yo-yo. Which sounds better?
