The Fat Strap (aka: belly burner)

do you guys think it really works? I usually wear it when i workout and I like the tight feeling it gives around my belly.
The question is: does it really help burn fat around the midsection?
Also, what about the black, plastic looking bags that are actually sweats and a sweater that help you sweat more? Would it be bad if I wore it?

If it feels good, wear it - but it is the exercise that burns fat, not adding an extra bit of lycra around your middle.0

Back in Highschool I used to see the wrestlers wearing those sweat suits, they can be very dangerous. They would wear them and run to make weight for matches by losing water weight. I would stay away from them if I were you, but that's just my opinion. On the belt I have never heard of it, I bought a compression shirt that keeps everything tight and I don't know if it helps burn any calories, but it does help with my form and helps to engage my core some. I agree with above if it feels good wear it.0

Not sure if I can tell a real difference except alot of sweating around the belly when I wear it!0

It's a gimmick. Sorry. :ohwell:0

That's the difference - you'll sweat more!
It doesn't mean that your belly is melting away, just that the sweat can't evaporate from this area to cool you down, so you'll keep on sweating.0 -
Yeah, I heard the plastic sweats and stuff is really bad :-/ maybe if I keep myself extremely hydrated?
the belly burner is a sham!! nooooo oh well, off to the gym I go. I'm excited! thanks guys!0 -
You don't sweat fat, so you're just losing water. If you like the feeling it gives you, by all means wear it! It isn't burning fat, though.

I have one but i wear it so i can do jumping jacks and jump rope without my fat rolls slapping each other....at least it keeps it from hurting.0

I've only seen the sweat suits used for dumping water weight for competition. I've seen people dump upward of 20lbs in a day by wearing those, plus laying off the sodium and water, and taking salt baths. Obviously, going to that extreme is very dangerous if you aren't doing it correctly, and the difference is, whatever you sweat out is going to come back on as soon as you get a drink.0

It doesn't burn fat, but it will move around some retained water to help make that area temporarily look slightly better.
I train horses and a lot of people that show use a similar method to make necks look more trim:
The effect is gone completely within a couple days even if used 24/7 up until then. But if you have a big event coming up and drink plenty of water, it won't hurt. But then you might as well just throw on a set of Spanx, it'll be more effective.0 -
I have not worn any of these. But, I do agree they might make you lose temporary water weight by sweating. and will gain it back when you rehydrate.
But, they might have some benefit in helping to hold your muscles taut when exercising giving you support.
Back in the day when we wore (yeah, I am that old) tight girdles we did have smaller waists then most girls have today. a shame I didn't continue wearing them. hehe. In general they also had smaller busts--I wonder if it is because our diets were not mainly fast food or fatty. Just a thought.0 -

Well, I"ll be... who knew that horses necks needed to look more trim? Thanks for that bit of trivia which I will store away!
I'd second the Spanx suggestion too.0 -

I think that is precisely why. NO fast food anywhere, people were eating clean and getting some physical activity everyday0 -
