Frustrated

I have been doing the MFP for about 2 months. I initially lost up to 7 pounds. Then gained 2 of it back about 2 weeks ago. And I have not lost or gained a single ounce since. I am allowing myself 1200 calories and I try to get some cardio in 3 times a week. The last week I have been sick so haven't made it to the gym to workout. I am getting totally frustrated with the weight loss. What am I do wrong? Am I not getting enough calories so my body has went into starvation mode? Am I eating the wrong type of foods for calories? I just want to give up and stay plump. I don't know what to do anymore or what to change

without having your diary open, all we can venture is guessing. your original weight loss was probaly due to water weight, and the overall shock to your system. you need to eat. you probably have your calorie goal set too low. if its 2lbs per week, you should put it to 1lbs.

yea, you may be allowing yourself 1200 calories, but you arent eating that much

also, its supposed to be bad for your metabolism to basically starve yourself most of the day (ie just coffee for breakfast and no lunch) and then just eat dinner.

small meals multiple times a day would be much better and probably help out

That is not bad for your metabolism. I do that almost every day.

Eat when you want OP, just eat more

Try this diet. My experience is that it works. http://teamripped.com/my-nutritionsupplements/my-sample-diet
  • Giving up would be the easiest thing to do, however, the payoff for all the hard work will far outweigh the easy route. You can do this. Your mind will quit before your body, so keep pushing yourself and eat more. Look into the Abs Diet, which is a lifestyle change that focuses on eating the right foods. I have had 2 children in the last 3 years, gained 45lbs with both and lost it all w/ the Abs diet. And always have a cheat meal!

Thanks 4 the feedback. I have never really been a breakfast person. Coffee in the morning is good for me. I have very poor eating habits (this is why I am where I am) I find that if I eat first thing in the morning then I just want to eat all day so I keep myself so busy during the day that I don't eat. So then I just eat dinner. I am not in anyway making excuses because I make my choices but with my job it is really hard to stay on a schedule with eating small meals. I work 48 hour shifts on a ambulance so never know if I will be busy or not. So if any of you have any ideas or suggestions for small meals/snacks that don't require reheating or fridge I would love to hear them.

Nuts are a good option for quick calories :) You can measure out a decent portion and just take them along with you in little sandwich bags.

    EAT EAT EAT!

You'll be amazed how much better you feel when your body gets the nourishment it's craving. Right now it's probably hanging on to every last calorie because it's afraid it won't get any more food.

Feel free to add me as a friend, I always like to throw out neat food suggestions I find and I don't mind people asking questions.

It's also totally natural to plateau out for a little while and you'll have to shake things up a bit, but it really looks like you could just change what you're eating and notice a world of difference pretty soon.

I think you need to eat more and and work some more fresh fruits and veggies into your day. Also, the thinner you are the harder it is to lose (in my opinion). You don't mention specifics and it's not really any of my business if you don't want to share but if all you need to lose it 15 or 20 lbs then it probably won't be a quick thing. I'm within about 15 lbs of where I want to be and it's taken me 2 months to lose about 6 lbs. Good luck and don't get discouraged. Make some changes to your diet. If that doesn't work out then try something different. Keep trying until you find something that works for you. What's right for one of us, may not be right for someone else.

I got stalled a while ago when it told me to eat 1200 calories. I don't know if I really believe in "plateau" i the "my body won't lose weight" sense, but I know for me I was so hungry that I would cheat and ended up eating too much. I reset my goal to 1400 calories/day and I'm able to stick with it and the weight's been coming right off again. I also got a HRM, which was sort of a sobering tool (it turned out a lot of my estimates were too high). So... either of those might help?

Fruits and veggies and nuts are great for take-along meals. Apples, bananas, oranges, grapes, carrots, broccoli, nuts- they're all relatively low calorie and will keep your body happy and working on digesting something so you can focus on saving lives!

Don't be afraid of some carbs too- just watch your portions. (Or don't- you have the flexibility from the looks of it!) I like Veggie Stix instead of chips, they're salty and can handle some cravings for salty crunchy things without adding on a ton of calories. They're also only like, $5 a giant bag at Costco.

Preparing your meals in advance is perhaps the most important advice i can give you for eating healthy on long shifts- over-pack your food if you are worried about not eating enough- you'll be surprised how little you end up eating when you eat regularly.

I don't know what your starting point is but I did the same thing as you. One meal a day. My body was holding onto everything because it didn't know when I would eat again. Did you know the cream and sugar in your coffee in the morning in just one cup everyday can add around 10 pounds a year. I had to force myself to eat on a somewhat regular schedule. Oatmeal, fruit, eggs or whole wheat toast for breakfast. Salad, veggies, protein, etc for lunch and dinner. Rarely have pasta, potato, fried food, white breads. Diets don't work. You have to truly want to change your life. You have to find a way and time to nourish your body or it won't work. Exercise is a must! You have to set aside the time. I'm not trying to be mean but it doesn't seem like you really want it yet or you would be trying harder. You have to eat and have to exercise and until you get to the point where you can't live another day with the extra pounds, you may never see change. Took me a long time to get there. I manage a restaurant and that was always part of my excuse. I am by no means trying to hurt your feelings just being honest like I WISH someone would have been with me. You can do it. Just put your mind to it....good luck and I hope you reach your first goal soon. (set small goals and big ones, small don't seem so hard to reach and seem more attainable, helps make it a bit easier. 6 week goal, 3 month goal etc).

I haven't hit a plateau yet. Started my journey May 25 and have been losing about 1-2 pounds a week since. I don't eat the same food everyday and don't do the same workouts every week.

Thank you to all the replies and suggestions. I never really gave nuts a chance because they seemed high calorie for the amount you can consume. I AM GOING TO GET THROUGH THIS!!!!

Eat more regularly, and eat more variety. More fruits and veggies. Less processed food.

I used to not eat all day long, and when I started eating breakfast and eating more balanced I started losing weight. I also don't eat a lot of calories on most days, but I try and eat balanced and fairly regularly. I don't always log all my fruits and veggies, but I eat a LOT of them. Things like slicing up apples and eating them with cheese or nut butter, keep nuts and seeds on you all the time, slice up lots of different veggies and take them along. I ALWAYS keep quick cooking oats with me, and a bit of brown sugar in a little container and I have a little backpacking salt and pepper container that I put cinnamon and ginger in for my oatmeal. You can use quick cooking oats like instant oatmeal. Hard boiled eggs keep and travel well. Wraps with nut butter and bananas or strawberries. Wraps with cheese and veggies. Yogurt with nuts/seeds and berries. You can put some milk in a small mason jar with frozen berries in it, even without a fridge that will still be pretty cold for most of your first day.

Oh crackers, meat, cheese, and veggies. You can get things like Blue Diamond Nut Thins crackers and they have some protein too.

I am celiac so I have had to lean to always bring food with me, makes me eat much healthier. Are you on call for those 48hr shifts or actually in your station those whole 48hrs?

I would also advise you to invest in a big lunch cooler and a few ice packs, then you can bring things like meat and stuff too.

I was a couch potato and I could not even make it 2 min on the treadmill, I am now doing 5-10 minutes on it. I am ready for this just don't know where to go from here. I asked for help because I don't want to give up.
