impossible to say which is better without knowing how the foods fit into the context of the rest of your diet0 -
Maybe try eating more meals and less snacks. If you eat 5 to 6 meals a day, you should be less hungry between.
Good luck!0 -
What's better is what fits into your lifestyle and what helps you maintain this long term.
Almonds and cashews are great snacks but if a tootsie roll or two gets you through your day then go for it.0 -
how long is a piece of string?0

be careful with pre packaged dried fruit from the grocery store. The manufacturers add SUGAR!? to an already sweet fruit!! doesnt make any sense to me to add more...so I dont eat it. I take a serving of dry roasted peanuts with me all the time ( just make sure you pour out a serving as you may find it hard to stop eating them YUM!) I eat all nuts equally though, cashews,almonds,walnuts...they're all protein to me and delicious!0

There are a lot of great snacks depending on what you need after eating your meals.
You can have yogurts/ greek yogurt - for dairy and protein
You can have a protein shake
You can have fruits and veggies maybe with a hummus dip for the veggies
It is really hard to recommend without seeing your diary and knowing more about you.0 -

[I see... I'm generally a over on protein even if I keep the calories below daily limit... but then again I don't always count the pretzels and tootsie pops (better than ho ho's tho). I'm still losing but I LIKE to graze. a handful of something here and there is an ingrained habit... maybe I should break it????but it would be easier to graze on healthier things....I know... eat a carrot!]0 -
I keep pecan nuts and dried figs in my desk drawer, as well as a small bar of dark chocolate for when I really need a 'fix' or other people are eating sweet things and I feel deprived! I don't think it matters too much which type of nut is 'better' - go with whichever you will enjoy most and be satisfied with. The same for dried fruit, though it does have a lot of sugar, so you may want to look at that if it's an issue for you. I love peppermints - do you get Peppersmith's in the US? They're made with natural, but unrefined, sugars and may hit the spot.0

The nuts is a better choice over the sugary treats and the pretzels. I pack fresh fruit, such as berries, apples, etc. I also like Greek yogurt, hummus, edemame, baby carrots and raw almonds! Do you have a Trader Joe's near you? If so, drop in and take a look at all the healthy snacks they offer!0

Almonds and cashews would definitely be better nutritionally BUT they are high in calories, so you should consume a small amount. If it's the quantitiy you need to get you through then the pretzels might be a better choice. Like someone else said, it really depends on you and the context of your day. And what might be good for you one day might not be the next. : )
p.s. someone else mentioned Trader Joe's ---a favorite place of mine. They have individual sized dark chocolate bars box of 5 or 6, 100 calories each. I'm not a fan of dark chocolate but those are really help me stop cravings for candy, junk food, etc. Good to have on hand.0 -

[ goood suggestion,, trader joes... a big problem of mine (of the lazy/many) is preplanning... carrying food... maybe I should just stock the workplace with bags of better stuff rather than eat what's around....y'all are great.. thanks/quote]0 -

Small meals does indeed help. Also nuts are a great snack but be carefull. Its easy to eat too many. Measure them out. i find that helps.
I to am an avid snacker. Working on this issue myself0 -
Candy? maybe your meals should be more in fiber and protien that would make you fuller longer. If you need to snack, pretzels are good, fresh fruit better than dried just because of the added sugar in dried fruit, veggies, yogurt, cheese sticks, hummus0

I have been keeping Fiber One bars at work.
One is enough to overcome hunger instead of snacking, it is pre-portioned and 140 Cal per bar, with a good fiber content to keep me full.
It solved my cravings for something sweet or nutty and helps to stay within my cal count for the day.0 -
my fav low cal snacks.... banana, apples, dole fruit cups (no sugar added), light apple sauce cups, special k fruit crisps, no fat pudding cups, yogurts, raisin box....
most of these things do not require a refrigeration so they are great on the go!0 -
Cutting out snacks has really helped me the most. If I do need a mid-afternoon pick-me-up I'll have a Ryvita fruit crunch with Duo Penotti (like Nutella only 100x better )
Of celery with cottage cheese is also nice and light and refreshing too.
Or else there's my old fall-back.... water. I drink at least 2 glasses and then if I still want something, I'll go have it.0 -
yesterday I ended up taking a handful of cashews and leaving them in the car for the drive between jobs. so when I got to the second job I didn't want to hoover pretzels and could just order dinner, I wish I had the time and strength to plan everything!!!!! it's that leaving - the - house thing with 2 changes of clothes, all your work needs plus 3 meals and snacks that's so hard.0

Almonds are better than cashews and raisins are high in sugar! Let's research this and see what are the best snacks.0
