NSV- Running

So for those of you that don't know on here. I have what is called floating patella syndrome. I don't have cartilage in my knees which causes bone on bone friction and is very painful. I used to be very athletic and played every sport that I could. That all came crashing down when I joined cross country in high school and my knees started dislocating every time I ran longer than a minute sprint tops. Because of this I wasn't able to join the Marines like I had wanted to. I couldn't play the sports that I loved anymore. Needless to say that it was a huge down side to my life, so everytime I go to the gym it has to be the bike or elliptical. Last night after my elliptical work out, I got on the treadmill just to walk. I was curious how far weight loss and getting healthier could take me so I bumped it up to a brisk pace (which is where my knee will start acting up). Nothing. After 10 minutes of that I tried a minute run. I ran. I took a break for a minute and tried running for 2 minutes. I ran. I took a minute off and went up to 4 and a half minutes. After that it was a minute off and a minute on. I did this for 15-20 minutes. My sister takes me to the gym and she looked up and saw me running and her jaw dropped. I texted my fiance during a walk break because I was so excited. After my hour work out, I got off the treadmill and started crying when I got to my apartment. My knees hurt a little bit today, but not as much. They are still bad knees, but it felt good to run through pain instead of letting the pain/dislocations run me. That little running might not be much for most, but for someone who has not ran in 8-9 years at all and is only in her early twenties. It was huge!!!

Yea, running was one of my favorite things. If I had a bad day, I would just get up and run until I felt better. I really havent found anything else to relieve stress like that did.
Sara - I did want to join the Marines. I was actually joining and didn't tell them about my FPS, but of course in the run my knee dislocated.
Oh well, I guess it wasnt meant to be. The summer that I would have been in training is the summer I met my fiance so it all worked out.

Good for you!! I know the feeling. Losing a little weight is definitely helping me get back into running after injuring my legs

That's so awesome!!! Great for you!! I don't have what you have, but I have osteo-arthritis in both knees so I can sympathize with your joint pain and the constant friction. Make sure you are icing them afterwards!!
