Okay, unless I find some extreme motivation I feel as if I am going to fail. I am a stay at home mom, and when I am home I think I "boredom eat". It's so frustrating cuz I tell myself NOT to eat what I am about to eat as I am stuffng it into my face. Seriously! I make healthy food choices, I just eat more than I should realy be eating. If I don't eat enough, I feel sluggish and tired. I cut carbs where I can, I eat lots of fruit and veggies and lean meat. But, if there is something in the house that I am craving, I literally cannot stop myself. Like: 3 slices of pumpkin pie in a day. C'mon. What tips does anyone have to keep me from doing this? I thought about maybe just throwing it in the garbage before I can eat it? But I feel as if it's morally wrong to do it.

It's "morally wrong" to throw food of no nutritional value away but it's not morally wrong to stuff it into your body? Isn't that considered abuse?
  • My son is two so when I am craving to eat something I shouldnot I usually grab a bunch of water and we goto the park or play in the backyard. His energy is rdiculous, but it givesme something to do!

I used to leave a pair of 5lb dumbells on my kitchen counter. Any time I went in and was tempted to eat a snack I forced myself to do 12 reps of several exercises. By the time I was done, I didn't feel like eating the snack anymore. Plus I got extra exercise (alot at first!) It kind of retrained my brain so now I don't need them in there anymore.
  • I hate to throw away food! So when there is something in the house (like a costco size container of cinnabon cinnamon rolls) that didn't get eaten over the weekend by guests - I will send it to work with my husband. That way it doesn't get thrown away and it's not in the house as a temptaion for me.

You may not want to hear this but you may want to find someone to talk to about this. This is kind of like a food addiction in a way. Therapy can help you sort out why you behave this way when you don't want to.

I find drinking either hot tea or some decaf coffee can keep me from eating - now I will put either honey or creamer in - so you did have added calories/sugars...but with a cup of coffee or tea it is less than 50 calories and it gives me a fix...plus a cup takes a bit longer to drink up.

With other things - put them up and away - with 2 kids in the house we have candy and cookies in our house a lot of the time - I put them up and away - out of site out of mind...plus if the kids don't see it they won't ask for it...
  • Thank you all for some really good advice. Distractions, exercise, and therapy. Got it! :) ty ty ty
