I'm PATHETIC!!

Yesturday - I'm at World Market & of all things they had potato chips out to sample....

I kept "sneaking" back to the table to get more... disgusted with myself, I left the store, completely forgetting what I went there for in the first place.

After I leave, all I can think about is potato chips... more potato chips.

Today, I go to Trader Joe's to specifically find some "good for you" potato chips. I found some... Air popped - 120 calories for 22 chips.

I was so excited, you would've thought I won the lottery.

On my way home, I wolfed down the whole bag - around 400 calories later. There goes lunch....I'm so pathetic.

What I'd like to know is what others do when they feel so out of control?

    I've had to forgive myself a couple of times and just start fresh & forget the boo boos.
  • Well all "Fall off the Horse" you just have to get back into the saddle the next day. This is a One day at a time thing. So never give up just keep on keeping on.

    Sometimes I just go for it, too, and cut out some other snacks for the day. If I REALLY over-do it, I try to work out more that day, and the next, and make sure for the next day or two I stick to the low end on calories. I figure if I eat 2000 calories one day and 1200 the next two (total of 4400) it's fine. That equals 1466 a day on average for three days. If you're working out and burning calories, that should be just fine. Our bodies can be forgiving to occasional binges. :smile:

    Anytime I begin to feel like this I just think of how completely unsatisfying this type of indulgence is in the end. I always feel bad after I do it and it really wasn't even that good to begin with. But...it is okay to treat yourself every now and then!! I am sure you are doing a fantastic job!! :wink:

    I've never been known to lose control with food because I walk away before I have the opportunity. If I have a snack and think I may inhale the entire bag, I grab a bottle of water and go somewhere where there is no food or to the mall, which has food that I wouldn't eat anyway;

    Just remove yourself from the situation. If you have the potential to inhale a bag of chips, don't buy them. This is why I don't binge on candy, chips, soda, or anything else because I don't buy them for my household.

    I'm not sure if I am in control enough to lose it, since I generally succumb to cravings. :smile: My philosophy is that it should be healthy, but I ain't dead yet and what if I die tommorrow? I would wish I'd eaten that ice cream, that's what. Thing is just making up for it a bit over the next day or two.

    It's a one day at a time thing as has been posted, but at the same time, you have your whole life to do it. If you're going to keep the weight off, you'll be doing what you are doing for many years. So, what's a little skid once in a while?

    I had one of these moments last night. I was on my way home from a late night with my Young Life kids, I had eaten a sensible dinner and just barely made my calorie count, needless to say I was feeling very good about it. Then IT hit me, the late night cravings! ARRRGH! :mad: So I thought, "Well, I will have a 90 calorie snack bag of popcorn, not too bad.". But oh no, it didn't stop there, I wolfed down about 20 of the Honey Wheat Pretzels twists!:explode: Blast!
    I just have to pick myself up and do better today! And I have discovered that those times of weakness are getting fewer and farther between! Good luck today!

    I've done that so I know exactly how you feel. You just have to forgive yourself (you're only human after all) and get back on track the next day. Don't beat yourself up over it but give yourself a good lecture instead if you want to. :laugh: Good luck to you.

    Every one mess up. But hey I just work out harder or run extra. I figure hey it may counter balance it. Dont be so hard on your self.

    It's going to happen, we all fall down, what matters is that you pick yourself back up.

    I think someone mentioned trying to avoid the pitfalls beforehand. If you know potato chips are a weakness then try not to buy them or at least only buy a small bag. That way you only have to have self control at the time of purchase not later on when you have a full size bag in your car and are trying not to eat them.

    Also, when I get hit by those cravings I try to think about all the hard work I've put into losing weight so far and that I don't want to undo that for a few minutes of food that I'll feel terrible about later. I try to remember how I felt the last time I "slipped" and how I really didn't enjoy it.

    and I would look at why this food in particular may have a trigger for you. Is it associated with something in your paste? Was it a comfort food before? We all have these emotional triggers to food as well and it's very important to try and figure those out or it will be harder to lose the weight and keep it off.
