On monday i decided to be serious about using MFP. I decided i will log my food every single day, and i will log in everything that i ate even if i go above my calorie limit so i can know what to change. This made me realise the importance of calorie counting. its funny how a peanut butter sandwich can have such high calories yet its so small and deceiving. I have learnt my leswson yesterday and i will be much more careful about my food selection from today.

  • I found that out also,,I would always say "why am I gaining weight, I eat like a bird", but when I added my food I ate, I was surprised in the calories they had.

They do matter... and the tricky thing is to work out the balance of good nutrition vs calories. You can get 0 calorie desserts that put nothing into your body or a 250 cal peanut butter sandwich on grainy bread that is giving you a whole lot more calories but a whole lot more goodness too.
I know what I'd rather eat... but I usually compromise and have a pb sandwich with just one piece of bread so I'm getting the nutrition but controlling the quantity and hence the calories. To me, this is a much better choice than something that is just low in calories but has nutritional value (don't even get me started on 0 calorie noodles!).

I think that's one of the things I really like about MFP - I can not only see how my calories are adding up for the day but I am much more concious of how much carbs/protein/sugar etc I'm getting, so I can work toward balancing nutition and calories and fit in a few treats (mmmm, cupcake, that was a bad idea today but very yummy!)
