Hi,

I've been running since October 2010 with a Running Club. I run between 4 and 5.5 miles twice a week and if I can make it, on a sunday morning too...

I have decided to be brave and go for my first Half Marathon later in 2012... I know I have lots of work ahead of me but I am very motivated to make it happen (although I am a tad scared too)

Anyone else out there who has been running for about a year and ready for some Half-Marathon training? Please add a message with your friend requests

Thank you
Schninie82

Hi. I signed up for my first 1/2 marathon. It's only about 16 weeks away and I'm running/walking it. I really love the mental model of run a mile, walk a minute and repeat 13 times.
You have plenty of time to train. I started running again in august. I ran a 5k in October. I'm shooting for a 2:45 finish.
A friend facilitated the FIRST training program. I think it works pretty good.
Which race are planning to run?

Yes! June 24th 2012. So scared, as my longest distance is 6 miles. Lots to work on! But looking forward to it. :)

That's a good one, walk 1 min run one mile!
  • I started running about 7-8 months ago and since then have completed several 5ks, a mud run, and warrior dash. I've never been a runner before nor did I desire to be,but I challenged myself to do it and now I find that I actually enjoy it! I am planning on doing my 1rst half marathon April 14, 2012 ("Rockin' the Parkway" in Kansas City,Mo.).

    Hi,
I ran my first 1/2 after with a previous maximum distance run of only 12k's and it was awesome. Am planning on running my first full marathon next year and am really looking forward to it. Good on you for giving it a go and remember to enjoy the run too.

I'm hoping to do the Yuengling Shamrock half in Virginia Beach St. Patrick's day weekend 2012! the furthest I have done so far is 3 miles so we'll see. I'm doing the Galloway training program of running 3mins walking one. I'm doing a 4 mile run this weekend to see how I do :) Its a lofty goal given that I haven't been running for very long.

The Shamrock here in VB is probably the best 1st half marathon to do.
It is pancake flat and well supported. The weather starts out a little chilly, usually mid to low 40s, and warms up to low 50s by the time it's over.
Bring a pair of sunglasses, miles 6.5 to 9 are along the Chesapeake Bay and right into the rising sun.
I can't say enough good things about how great the course is. Finishes on the boardwalk and Irish stew in the tents on the beach afterwards is awesome.
Let me know if you have any questions about it. I've done it a few times and live a couple miles from the start.

I'm training for my first half in February - so I have less than 2 months to go!
My long runs are getting up to almost the race distance now, so I'm beginning to have confidence that I will be able to do it, and that's a great feeling.
    Good luck with your training!

Just ran a 15K last weekend, and plan to do a half the first weekend of May 2012. I'm on a reduced mileage for the holidays and start training again in earnest in Mid-February.

I am doing one in mid March, 2012. I have run 13 miles before on Sunday long runs (but that was a loong time ago), but never made it to 13.1.

so this will be my longest distance ever. I hope I get there! right now I feel very motivated and determined.

My husband and I are going to be doing the Shamrock Half in VA beach, too! We are just starting the training, we did run a 10K on thanksgiving but that was a little long for us, we were oinly doing a few miles before that.

My sister is my inspiration. We both ran the Shamrock 8K last year. Then she ran a half in September, but I slacked off. So now I am going to run this half and she's training for the full.

I am a nervous wreck, honestly!

Hey there, I am planning to run my first half marathon in Febuary. Im still pretty overweight so I have lots of planning to do before it happens. I have done a 10km on my own just for fun and had no problem with it. So I plan to do a registerd 5km Jan 1st and a 10km on the 16th in order to better prepare myself for the half marathon. Super excited, No nerves yet, its not that close!

I started running in May 2011 and participated in the relay at the Queen City Marathon in September (my leg was about 11 kms). I will run the half at QCM in September 2012, and then aspire to do the half in Vegas, and the half in the Nike Women's race in San Francisco...at some point!

A good friend of mine has led several running groups out of the Running Room and recommended training programs by Jeff Galloway. He is an advocate of the run/walk combo that other have mentioned. Google him for more info!

Good luck! Add me if you like!
