I asked if she has a place for notes on my records..and she said it depends.. and I said for a nervous patient..and that I dont want any neg. comments and ask I was saying it.. I started crying and then she asked if I was ok and I just broke down.. that I was so scared and embarrassed (not sure if she understand that) but she goes its ok just relax its just a cleaning.. she was very nice but I feel so stupid!

Aww! I didn't see your original post, but you are definitely not the only adult scared to death of the dentist. I think we are in the majority actually. I too feel like an idiot. My 3 year old does better at the dentist than I do! I had a c-section and survived that but can't get a simple cavity filled without going into a full out panic? Don't worry, they see it all the time :)

Do try and relax. Can you see about getting some valium or something from your dr. Not being mean.... but it might get you through this. Your teeth are important and not having them hurt and fall apart will make you feel better in the long run.

I agree. I went for a cleaning last year [yeah I hate the dentist so I don't go routinely], and the lady was so rude because I was literally having a panic attack on the chair. I hate hate hate the dentist. Scares me to go there.

The cleaning doesn't scare me.. finding out all that is wrong scares me.. I'm afriad my unhealthy gums screwed up my bones in my mouth ect. that is why I'm scared. the last time I went to this dentist they were nice.. I could tell by the facial expressions what they were thinking but they werent rude.. but the surgeon that I might have to go was very rude

I'm sure you are not the only one who has cried! Don't worry about it - I'm sure they've seen it all before.

I hope you got a new dentist.. my regular dentist was nice when I went in 09. I don't like the surgeon.. he was rude.. but I'm gonna see if they can refer me to another one. but im mostly scared of whats wrong. I'm hoping if I can get through the cleaning, fillings and my wisdom teeth taken out.. that I can be more comfortable and go to the dentist every 6 months like I should

Well done. One hard step down, one to go!! You can and will do this, and you will be fine, and you know that.

Thanks.. sadly that was a huge step.. Just making the appt.. but I'm thinking I'll be looking at 3 appts.. but hopefully eventually it wont bother me as much

I see that you have kids, so you are doing a good thing by setting a positive example for them!

I used to work for a dentist and believe me, most people are afraid, nervous or terrified of going to the dentist. I've held the hands of so many patients during treatments, and everyone ends up doing well. But its great you scheduled your cleaning! And honestly, regular check-up and cleanings really can make a difference in helping to avoid other potential problems later on.

I'm one of those weirdo's who LOVES to get my teeth cleaned, if my insurance paid for more then two cleanings a year I'd get my teeth cleaned as often as I could ;)

Thanks I hope it goes ok.. I'm getting nervous as its tomorrow. I know cleaning isn't nothing.. but I'm more afraid of them finding something really bad.. also of the treatments of the fillings and getting the wisdom teeth surgically removed but I gotta take one step at a time and remember I'm setting a example for my kids and doing this for my health also

You did good making the appointment. It's probably good that it is sooner, rather than later, so you don't have too much time to get all worked up for weeks.

Try to practice some relaxation techniques. You told the dentist that you are afraid and they will probably be on alert for that.

Keep in mind that detistry has changed a lot in the last decade. It is not the same as when we were kids. They have special tools that blast plaque of with water instead of the old scraping tools they used to use.

The other thing you can do it come up with a reward for yourself if you make it throught the whole cleaning. Like maybe going for a manicure, or buying a new pair of shoes. What ever motivates you. We do that for our kids. They get to pick from a treasure box when they go to the dentist. Find your treasure and reward yourself.

    Best wishes to you.

I will try and reward myself. It won't be nothing major.... but something. I need to do that with my kids too.. they have a treasure box at the dentist..but my oldest is going to need a better reward than that.. Well i'm about to leave.. maybe i'll post on how it goes
