Increased my Calories because of a Plateau

Hi Everyone. I posted a thread a couple days ago regarding my plateau that I have been in for about 6 weeks. I have lost 30 lbs since January doing Turbo Fire. Currently I was fluctuating between 144 up to 147 and at highest for a day was 149.

I was advised to increase my calories from 1360 to 1600 and add weight training. I have read this in many places to change things up when you are in a plateau and often times you need to eat more. I am 5'7 and 37 years old.

I am freaked out right now because my scale is reading even higher. today I was 151.6. I only have been increasing my calories for 2 days and started a weight training program (chalean extreme) yesterday. I can't afford to put any more weight on for my mental well being! LOL :)

Is it normal to gain in the beginning of a change like this? I know the water retention from lifting weights for muscle recovery, but I had already hit 150 before I even did that with one day of altering my diet....It has nothing to do with that time of month either. I am drinking water like crazy and my diet is tight. Please help!

Yes, it's very normal to have a gain when starting a new workout and new diet. Your body is storing because it is not use to the stress being put on it. It should go away withing the first 2 to 3 weeks.

    yes, it is completely normal.

Give any changes in diet at least 4 weeks to see how you do with it.

You can do this, it's only 4 weeks! If you don't like what happens, you can switch back.

edit to add ** these women are eating 2000+ calories a day, and are lean, healthy, strong and beautiful.

I know it's scary, but you can do this!

Thank You! I guess I am just scared of getting fat again. I also have a vacation coming up that I want to look hot for and I didn't expect the weight gain. I hope I don't go any higher on the scale....or maybe I should stay off the scale better yet. I think that is a better idea. 4 weeks is a long time! Ugghhh.... I wanted to be at my goal weight at my 1 year mark, which is messing with my head to!

Thanks everyone for all your encouragement and info! I really appreciate it!

    Do you take measurements?

    DO!

The scale is only just one tool you have to measure progress.

    and you are very welcome.
  • you will start toning..stop weighing yourelf for a few months and go by the way your clothes fit. The scale is just a number. Go off of how you feel. more energized i bet!

Took me a solid month to lose anything when I started eating my exercise calories. During that time the scale was up a pound or 2. Just stick with it.

Yes! I take measurements and photos for visual reference. I got stuck about 6 weeks ago. No more inches or lbs lost....I just changed things up now so we will see what happens. My clothes are still fitting o.k. It is just a mental thing I guess. Being that I have come so far and worked my butt off to get here, it is hard to look at the scale number going up now after being stuck for 6 weeks. I will trust what everyone has told me and give this change until January to see results.

Yes, as everyone said, this is to be expected. You were most likely undereating. You are already at a healthy weight - in fact you are at the mid point of healthy - and since it's a range, you're probably right where you need to be. Your Goal should be set at "Lose 1/2 pound a week."

Your body is now going to fight you tooth and nail to hang onto some body fat. Relax. You look great, and you are at a healthy weight. Enjoy it!
