Not sure where I belong

I'm not sure if Myfitnesspal is the right place for me but I'm going to give it a try.
I've been counting calories. Eating clean. Working out. Etc etc etc. And I continue to gain weight. About a month or two ago my doctor tested my thyroid and said it was normal. Yesterday she decided to do a more detailed test on it and said if it still comes back normal, she is going to put me on some diet pills for 3 months that will give me a "boost", and she wants to watch me very closely while on them. I'm not looking forward to this, no matter the outcome.
If I'm already doing all of this work and it's not doing me any good, what good is a pill going to do?!
I'm 21 years old and feeling hopeless and out of place (in all aspects).
Is anyone else having trouble like this? Working so hard at it and still gaining? I've gained another 10 in the past month! I'm at my heightest weight ever...including pregnancy weight! It's quite depressing!

Do you have Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome? Irregular periods, etc. and quick weight gain, middle weight (tummy) and possibly hair growth patterns on your body, or hair loss on your head...?
Just wondering. I do, and my crazy gains are somewhat related.
I'm also wondering if you have started any meds that put on weight (anti depressants and a lot of others are gainers... Steroids for asthma, for example.)
Either way if you're looking to get more fit in any way, this is the right place. Whether it's weightloss, or muscle tone, or dealing with injury or disease. Welcome!!0 -
Believe it or not, that pill will make all the difference the world! I'm on the synthroid pill as well (for my craptactular thyroid) and it works wonders Stay positive and give it a chance!0

I haven't started any meds (i'm actually on nothing at all right now) or been diagnosed with anything0 -
I suspect Polycystic Ovary Syndrome too. But I could be wrong. I hope MFP can help you.0

Dang. That gets me angry. I hate it when the doctor just blames everything on my weight, not even THINKING that there are other health issues too which could be causing it. (I've been mad at my doc for a while... He refused to up my synthroid even after the gyno said that my thyroid was probably the reason why my period was out of whack... He wanted me to go for more tests!!! I put my foot down and said no more tests until he at least tries upping the synthroid....)
What KIND of pill does your doctor want you on? Mine wants me on Phentermine. I refuse, because I have high blood pressure, and Phentermine can make it worse. I'm not against it as a rule, but I don't think my doctor takes my other issues into account..
Welcome to mfp. I hope you find support here. I know I have. (And sorry about my anti- doctor rant.... The whole point was just that sometimes they let insensitivity blind them to the real problem...)0 -
My Dr never mentioned anything about PCOS until I went to a fertility specialist, and then WHAMMO they saw polycystic ovaries on ultrasound, and it made sense. But the weight creates increase in female hormones which creates more and more, and that DOES slow or stop or disregulate one's periods.
My bariatric dr prescribed metformin to help with PCOS insulin resistence, and blood tests to monitor liver function etc.
It's not the silver bullet, but 10% of women have it, and unless they're trying to conceive they don't even know it sometimes. But for PCOS women, controlling carbs and getting regular exercise is VERY important!0 -
I hear you on the anti-dr rant! I have come across some GREAT ones and some really awful ones, or at least ones that don't seem to have the time. :P0

Wait to see what the doctor has to say. I worked my rear off after my 1st baby (gained 70 lbs during pregnancy) and I was only able to lose 20 lbs. I was going to the gym 5 days a week and for at least 90 minutes each time. He finally gave me a Rx diet supplement, since he could tell I was actually trying, and it was exactly what I needed! I only took it for 3 months but I was able to lose another 40lbs in 2 months by doing exactly what I had been doing all along. Sometimes your body just needs something to "shock" it back into fat burning mode. Good luck!0
