Needing a little boost

It's been over a week since I've exercised because of a horrific cough that has now moved into my head. I am exhausted and can't breathe well and my hacking in the night is preventing my partner from getting any sleep. While I haven't gained over the past couple of weeks, I'm feeling pretty down about my lack of progress and inability to work out. My mother is doing the Dukan diet and has now lost over 20 pounds (which is how much I have left until I reach my goal). At this rate, she'll look way better than I will at Christmastime. Last week I joined a 30-Day Shred challenge group for December but I'm not sure I'll be able to breathe well enough to start tomorrow. Any words of encouragement you can send my way would be most appreciated. Thanks.

Honey, please done beat yourself up- it only makes you feel worse at a time you need to feel better. Youre sick- your body needs to rest and get better- so let it. I know you have a goal for Christmas- but will it really be worth prolonging your sickness- and compromising your long term success by trying to force your poor sick body into motion?

You didn't gain- and that's half the battle- congratulate yourself. Really. Everyone loses weight at different speeds- and just bc mom lost what you have left- doesn't mean you wont lose that, as your body is ready to.

So chin up- get your water in and congratulate yourself on having lost what an average housecat weights... You lost a cat, girl- so be happy.. ;)

Wait til you are well, this stuff takes time...loose weight very fast and enjoy a flabby look.. Slow and Steady is da name of da game..
  • I just got over a horrible horrific cough myself. Mine lasted about 12 days:/ I started dieting yet again one day before I got sick then couldn't exercise for the next 12 days nor did I really want to diet while being super sick. By the time I felt better Thanksgiving was here and of course I couldn't pass up all the yummy holiday food. So.... now here I am on day 3 of dieting trying to lose 20 pounds myself and needing the same motivation...lol. I know how discouraging it can be to want to lose weight when others around you are but you are sick:( Just hang in there and let your body get well. Take walks here and there just to get out and do a little bit until you feel better to go full throttle again. Something is better than nothing:)

I've always held to this practice when it comes to sick workouts- if it's above the lungs, it's safe to work out. So if it's just a bit of nasal congestion, you should be fine.

With that cough, though, and the hacking- it's probably in your lungs. Listen to your body and remember it's not about some number on a scale, it's about creating a better, healthier lifestyle. Pushing yourself when you should be resting conflicts with a healthy lifestyle! So you've got 20 pounds to go... so you're mother is beating you. Good for her, but when you're sick, you need to focus on YOU. Be happy for your progress, and know that you'll be able to go full-tilt when you get better.

Good luck, get better, and rock on \m/

I LOVE being a part of the wonderful family that is MFP. Thank you all for your words. And I will just keep thinking that I have lost a cat. That is excellent. Now I just have to lose my dog, too! =]
