That time of month

How the heck do you make it through your period without undoing how hard you have worked all month? I am currently on day 10 of 30 Day Shred and my period is approaching fast. As soon as my period starts, I give up. I have a HUGE sweet tooth and feel so lazy for that week. I would like to know any suggestions on how to fight the urge to do nothing and eat all day.

I would always have terrible cravings with my TOM. A friend told me about coconut oil and now I eat some of that every day and I don't have cravings anymore.
Not sure its for everyone. My Physician recommended a low carb diet for me so while I do try to stay under a calorie goal, counting carbs is where its at for me instead of counting calories.

I read somewhere that a possible reason we crave chocolate is because it has magnesium in it. I bought some magnesium citrate as the site suggested and took it. My cravings were a lot less but this was just the first time trying it so I am not sure if it really works. I not only didn't have the high craving for chocolate but also carbs. I started taking it about 2 weeks before TOM.

I always eat bad the 2 days right before so I just make sure I stay under calories and/or throw in an extra workout or 2 in the days that follow. Probably not the best advice but it works for me.

I only started after a massive relapse the beginning of this week, right on first day of my cycle too....and yesterday I found it tough, I had a quarter of a blueberry muffin (rather than inhaling the whole thing), a dark chocolate lindt ball....and was sooooo surprised I managed to stop there. I don't believe it humanly possible to have one piece of chocolate.

I also didn't feel like the gym, with pains and tiredness and could have made an excuse already having gone twice for the week and could have had a day off, I decided I would just go to the gym for a little bit even a light session, and ended up doing more and felt better once I pushed past it.

If you start craving something, I found the best trick for me being a sugar addict....not to tell myself I can't have the food I am craving, simply that I could have it later. Often I would forget about it. This helps me to a) differentiate if I am actually hungry...if I am I could always have fruit/yoghurt instead....b) not give into the instant gratification of a sugar hit and c) tells my mind I am not depriving myself

    Hope that helps! Good luck!!

I am on that TOM today and it's so bad. I have pigged out at dinner and can't seem to help myself. If there is anything salty or chocalatey in my house it will be gone by the end of the week. I am thinking of taking abbbigayl's advice with the extra workout.

It's very hard!! I've been at this for two years (between weight watchers and MFP). I see it this way, it's one week out of the month, all you can do is try your best to get up and workout :-) I usually workout regardless of how I feel, because I usually feel better afterwards. I don't always push as hard as I would on my off weeks, but something is better than nothing at all!! As far as cravings, just try to keep alternative foods around, low calorie things. You can buy snack size or even fat free candies to get you through that week.... good luck to you!!

I used to be exactly the same way, but I got all of the sugar out of my diet and added lots of healthy fats such as evoo, evco, avocados, and raw nuts and seeds. All of my PMS symptoms have basically disappeared. I am a little short-fused once in a while during that time, but that's about the only thing. I'm in my mid-40s. Most of the women my age are going through extreme difficulties during their cycles, but my diet has made all the difference in the world. I hope this info helps you as it has me.
